2008-11-08 07:24:00 | Hello Hows everyone doing these days? All watching the election? :clap Just brought a 500GB seagate HDD 7200.11 model. After installing it I realised that the properties box for that seagate hard drive, (the one where you right click on the drive) takes extremely long to load/display. Roughly takes 45seconds. I have used the HDD to a small degree, installing ISOs and exe programs off the HDD, no problems so far. I havnt yet tested with Seatools and alike cos apparently I dont have .NetFrame 2.0...which was a shock to me :illogical. So well that is installing I thought I'll ask here for some suggestions and comments. Addition to this, I cant seem to change the drive letter on that drive, i can do it for others but not this one...very odd :illogical Is that HDD about to die?

2008-11-08 07:27:00 | If Windows is on it now, and Avast is installed on it, this can make it slow . It can also make my computer hang (If you use XP)

2008-11-08 07:32:00 | You mean if the HDD was set up as a system drive? Currently thats just an additional storage drive in the computer, eg no windows, set up just for data storage. However that computer is running XP ^^ | CCF (6760) | |
2008-11-08 07:35:00 | It wont matter if its got windows on it or used as storage . Its still in Windows Is Avast installed? It can take a while using an 80 GB . Dont think you can do much about it, its Windows :illogical

2008-11-08 07:39:00 | Haha I see where you are coming from ^^. Yes I do have avast installed. But I also have 4 other HDD in that comp, including 2x 250GB. Both shows it properties perfectly, less than 10sec from cold boot. But 45s?...bit much if you ask me. :waughh: And if it is a window problem. Would my only option in changing the drive letter be in the registry?

2008-11-08 07:42:00 | Yup it should be OK. Right mouse on the a for Avast in the taskbar, stop on access protection. To test it. See how long it takes then Did you partition this 500 gb?

2008-11-08 07:50:00 | Ah great, properties works perfectly now ^^...though it appears that the drive refuses to have its drive letter changed :( | CCF (6760) | |
2008-11-08 07:53:00 | You dont change it through properties. Go to control panel / admin tools / computer management / disk management Highlight the partition / hdd / right mouse , then change drive letter

2008-11-08 07:55:00 | Yeah thats where Im changing it from, though it just hangs there. Ive tried this sometime in the afternoon, after 30mins...still nothing. Restart freezes during the 'Windows Shutting Down' part :S Only applies to that new hdd though :S Others are fine.
