Basically I travel with a smallish card since I don't go blasting away, I only travel for 2 weeks max.

To upload on net even with BB its not fast enof, I don't like to spend so much time in a cafe. I personally resize at home and upload at home. If on site then basically use whatever software that is available and then upload as small size but this will vary if you are in Japan, Hong Kong or India.

If you shoot heaps then a Ipod is not bad with attachment to act as a portable HDD or take like a portable HDD without LCD as they are cheaper, you can also upgrade the HDD as well if you research.

If you are a fanatic, some models support RAW + JPG (small). That way saves the resizing. If all you want is JPG and don't have enof room for big files. Then the only way is to resize down and then upload, there are batch load features available. Or do things like highlight all and right click and resize blah blah..... You do not want to resize the current files, you want to copy them to say a computer folder and then resize it, b/c you wanna retain the original quality of the files, like a film negative, you never alter it, when you go for reprints you alter the secondary copy (not the primary copy).

Better cards may help such as Lexar and Sandisk, beware that auction sites sell fake brand name cards. Just google that for info. Software is also useful to rescue data off it for whatever reason I myself have Lexar Image Rescue which came with a card I bought a few yr ago, a high end one but they are also available standalone as well without the high end memory card.

A tip, always format the card it prevents errors. Than say do repeat deletes. Also try to format in camera than in computer.

I would need a hellava good reason to cut detail, As it is I can easily see the difference in picture quality between the two 5mp camera's I have (yes, even on screen) let alone the massive difference between those two and the 4 camera's of lesser mp on hand, including one 1mp camera.......

If viewed on your mega projector screen, then yes, I believe you.
Otherwise: rubbish!

Might be time to get the old eyes checked.

All good thoughts Nomad. However as you say, the software to resize on a cybercafe computer may not exist. It didn't on any pcs I found. I've just installed Image Resizer on my own PC having read Steve's thread - above. Very handy.

Thanks Maccrazy - I'll check if my camera can make small copies. I must say Speedy's suggestion of using U3 is intriguing.
