| 499371 | 2006-11-16 00:12:00 | I lived in Auckland for 35 years before moving to Wanganui. In all that time, even back when Robbie was Mayor, the various Councils could not agree on anything. Parochialism at its worst. They cannot sort out the transport problems they have now, never mind the future. I despair of Auckland achieving anything. The best thing for them is to have one council to rule the lot. Even then with with ward councillers it will still be a shambles. My vote is for Christchurch, Jade Stadium. Air NZ to run special cheap "Bus" flights between Ak & Chch, during any major event, either to a timetable or 'when full enough, fly'. PJ:2cents: And I suspect that the GOV would have to put in another $400 mil for accomodation in CHCH to catter for the visitors |

| 499373 | 2006-11-16 10:24:00 | "How will the waterfront stadium affect views?". it says. But it cops out by giving no answer - and the thousands of apartment owners who've organised their lives to get those views are entitled to be considered more than a rushed construction built simply for a rugby challenge. Good point. It is like plonking a big UFO into the middle of the city. This thing is going to be HUGE. Making the skin 'transparent', isn't going to fix it, as does a glass building ever look transparent, not to mention the heat gain inside, which is going to require a lot of expensive air conditioners. THey have based it on Wellingtons successful stadium, but Wellington wasn't stupid enough to plonk it into the middle of the CDB. The auckland bedpan is going to be a lot higher than the wellington stadium. Wellington spent about 5 years dicussing the stadium before it was built, Auckland have 2 weeks!!! |

To be fair, this (replacing Eden Park and building a proper stadium) has been talked about for years. It's just that the Rugby World Cup has finally spurred things into action...and about time too. |

Forever squabbling over your preeeciouuuuus views and tax rates being bumped up . Eden park suits you Kiwis :-P . . . . . Yeah no need to build a new waterfront stadium when a third world park park right in the middle of some houses will do the job . Just get some paint and put few more of those plastic chairs from the warehouse and that should do it for NZ's standard Even better keep debating which stadium is better until 2011 and we will gladly host Rugby World cup 2011 for you . Now that really will even save some more dollars . . . Hack you guys wont even need to spend any of your money at all!!!! What a great savings idea init?? |

Sadly, you've summed this country up pretty well . Bear in mind we're not all "anti-everything" . Some of us have positive, can-do outlooks on life . . . though we generally leave the country after a while cos we can't stand the negativity anymore  |

| 499379 | 2006-11-21 07:23:00 | Funny, could have sworn the Aussie stadium just went bankrupt, nice job skippies, I hear a few thousand mum and dad investors lost millions. Still as long as the banks recover their coin and the abbos are kept drunk and in the desert then all is good in the dustbowl. | Metla (12) | ||
| 499380 | 2006-11-21 07:45:00 | If new Zealand has to host this one Cup and we have to have 60,000 seating capacity then you can reduce this to 59,999 as I will not be going. This will save Auckland some money which would be better spent on roads anyway. If we want a "New Zealand Stadium" as such then possibly Auckland may be the best place to have it in so far as Auckland happens to have the biggest population and therefore this very expensive stadium could be used for other things with a base to support whilst the World Cup is not going on. For example "open air rock", "Speedway", "Carmen in the round" etc. I would not care as I can't here it from where I am. If it were me I would have to find a site in South Auckland like Wiri, Papatoetoe or similar. It needs to be close to public transport. If built on the Waterfont or Eden Park we are all going to get the same thing we got about the Western Springs Speedway and noise levels. I could have this Stadium built where I live but it would only be filled once. |
