718457 2008-11-07 07:56:00 I am looking for some Anti-virus software for my PC running XP Service pack 2.

I have Trend Micro PC Cillin Internet Security at the moment and has nearly expired. I just need some good Anti-Virus.

Do you people know any good anti-virus?

718458 2008-11-07 08:09:00 Eset Nod32-paid
Avast-Free

You'd prob want at least 2 other anti-spyware utilities too
Spyware terminator, Spybot S &D, SpuerAntiSpyware

And CCleaner and Revo Uninstaller.

Zonealarm for firewall.

edit: Comodo Antivirus Suite will probably be good but no one knows for sure yet:D

718459 2008-11-07 11:10:00 I'd say AVG Free but ever since they updated it to version 8 it constantly wants me to restart my computer, so I just tend to use Ubuntu more. Although it updates way faster than the older version and doesn't seem to slow my stupid laptop down too much.

NOD32 is prob the best one out there if you're wanting to pay for one.

Yeah I'd say zonealarm for firewall too!

Yes AVG has turned to complete **** in version 8. You can install it without all the crap but the updates no longer resume a download which is a real step backwards.

718461 2008-11-07 19:52:00 Yes to Avast for free and Nod 32 for paid also either Comodo firewall or ZA on all my comps I use a mixture of all those and we have 5 comps in the house gary67 (56)
718462 2008-11-08 01:49:00 I recommend ESET Smart Security to all my customers and use it myself.... it is in my opinion one of the best security suites on the market. It is reasonably priced and doesn't get in the way of you using your PC.

Cheers,

It's good, at least on 32 bit it is, but crap on x64 when I last tried it.

Edit: Oops, apologies, you're talking about the AV, not firewall. Yep, hold on that one.

718464 2008-11-08 03:26:00 There is a security suite now Murray, if you havent been around lately.

It includes the AV and firewall

Any good?

I'm running NOD32, which is the dogs nuts as far as I'm concerned, but have been running off the Windows firewall after trialling Comodo 64 and found it wanting in a big way (had previously found the 32 bit version to be very good).

Has anybody tried the 64 bit Comodo firewall lately?

Sorry to thread jack da, or do you prefer to be called Mr gangsta?.

718466 2008-11-08 03:57:00 I installed it on the other PC here

The FW looks pretty good, dont think the AV is that good tho (not yet anyway).

The updates for the AV are automatic tho, I suppose thats one good thing

I would avoid the AV for now (you do have the option of installing both or just the FW).

Altho, the previous version of Internet security, (before the one thats out now)
crashed when I went to uninstall it..
