718264 2008-11-06 21:10:00 Hi, I have a old one and thinking of upgrading, how are they for photography and editing?

They appear to be around 1.40/1.60Ghz low voltage Intels.
While the bigger laptops are 2.80Ghz etc..

The one I use is from 2000 so I only do admin work on it.
Much of it is for travel .. ie., laptop acts as a data backup device.

Or maybe I should get a 2004 model used one since they are soo $$, and just really use it as a storage and not a editor. Plus the odd interne and email .. etc. MS Office work.

What you think.,

Cheers

718265 2008-11-06 23:47:00 You mean like the EEEs. They're Ok for what they are, Your use seems minimal so it would do. pctek (84)
718266 2008-11-06 23:56:00 Since you're using it for photography and editing you may want the 1,6ghz Atom CPU netbooks i.e The eee901 and the Acer Aspire one Blam (54)
718267 2008-11-07 00:09:00 Nah .. I mean 1.5kg lappies.

Ie., IBM Thinkpad X series and such.

Ps. Editing RAW files with Adobe Lightroom - is that ok under travel - to download, organise files etc.. and an edit.

718268 2008-11-07 01:04:00 I have the EEEPC 901 Windows XP version, awesome little beast. Beats the pants off my work supplied Lenovo laptop (T60)

Added a 16gb SHDC card to it for storage, use a 320gb external for media etc.

Battery lasts a long time, and all up its been well worth the money, Its even able to play hidef video without stutter which surprised me.

718269 2008-11-07 06:32:00 Thanks, I had a look at the 901. Are the keys ok to touch type with?

The HDD is a bit on the small side, since I use dSLR and RAW files.
Altho I guess I could use a USB flash drive for backups.
The screen size should be fine though. :D

718270 2008-11-07 06:39:00 After a while you get used to it.
You could use an external, they're cheap to build these days.

Or a 32gb SD card off TM for around 150 bucks

The keys take a little getting used to for sure, the 2 key is a little more left than normal, the keys have a nice action though so its not bad once your used to it. if you were using it at a desk a lot i'd plug a fullsize usb keyboard to it.
