Some Telecom customers are getting slower broadband speeds despite the company's move to promised faster "unconstrained" speeds.

A telecom watchdog group and competitors say it is a result of low investment in the Telecom network.

In publicity for its October launch of unconstrained broadband, Telecom said that its "blazing speeds" would be "powering their way into Xtra's new Go Large" plans.......www.nzherald.co.nz

500582 2006-11-20 02:23:00 The Herald, and that reporter are hopeless, that news is 2 weeks old !

.....edit: and she doesn't even know about the Go Large problems, that now seem to be resolved to a certain extent.

edit again :).... and neither does Kevin Bowler for that matter :)

Dear Telecom

Today I was reading the NZ Herald website & I seen this story (www.nzherald.co.nz)

And I have a question for you

From the above link:

<snip>Bowler said the network problems were caused by "many factors" including distance from the exchange, quality of house wiring, presence of filters and noise on the line which affected performance. "As the unconstrained plans deliver whatever the network is capable of delivering on each line, and one of the key determinants of line speed is line length, there will be a wide variation in possible line speeds," said Bowler. </snip>

How do you explain some one who use to get 3.5Mb/s download speed & now only gets 1 – 2 Mb/s download speed, not even that! More like dialup speeds!.

I download a program from a International server & my download speed started at 300KB/s then went down to 35KB/s! According to the download manger in firefox 1.0.7

How do you explain someone who use to get 300 – 400 KB/s & now gets 35 – 100 – 200 KB/s

There distance from the exchange is OK,

The quality of house wiring is OK

Presence of filters, got a filter (1 I think)

Noise on the line, none that I call tell off

PS: Any one is welcome to use this if any one wants.

Maybe for you, but I am still not getting 3.5Mb/s + (All I want is 3.5Mb/s I would be happy with that, in till there is a big Xtra network outages & then I would get 7.6Mb/s mahahaha :D :p)

I would be happier with a genuine steady 2MB/sec, more like under the old Adventure plan, than this up and down variable speed business on international sites.

I'm still waiting for Orcon to ring about connecting me.

Ditto .

And where do they come up with only 10% have problems?
