499512 2006-11-16 03:14:00 I e-mailed Watchdog on Tuesday to sign up for a new broadband account. They sent me a join up form and within an hour of my first enquiry it was all done and I had a new e-mail address and a 10 gig account.Today they advised me that Telecom will be switching me over tomorrow and I have the details to change router over.

That's the fastest I've ever had.

Just wait and see how good their max speed is.

Started up as Family.net in 1999. Based in Whangapora. They serve a lot of schools etc.

What may upset some forum members is they filter out porn and other "objectioable" sites.

The internet wouldn't exist in it's current form if it wasn't for porn.

I read on slashdot today that porn now makes up only 1% of web pages. Everyone must be getting it through p2p now.

499519 2006-11-16 05:48:00 The internet wouldn't exist in it's current form if it wasn't for porn.

In what current form? Stuffed with malware, porn, spambots, rubbish and pirated files?

Or in its technical form? Yes it would.

Although the Watchdog site
www.watchdog.net.nz

claims to:

Watchdog uses the latest technology to:

* Monitor and block offensive web (HTTP) and file transfer (FTP) sites.
* Monitor and block P2P (peer-to-peer) sites
* Monitor and block Internet searches for pornography.
* Monitor newsgroups (NNTP) and block any offensive ones.
* Allow users to request sites be added to our blocking list if they are not listed already.
* Allow users to request that blocked sites be unblocked if it is considered that they have been blocked incorrectly.
* Filter email for objectionable content
* Filter email from known objectionable sources.

and it may do quite well but none of those things ever work properly.
Its like spam filters, either some slips through or it blocks innocent content too.

Still I might keep the link - I know some parents who might be keen on the
Monitor and block P2P (peer-to-peer) sites

Company stays under the radar and attracts small customer base.
Customer service is excellent so attract more customers.
They get noticed by mainstream and customer base explodes.
Company gets sold or absorbed by big corporation.
Service turns to crap.

Maybe posting on here was not such a good idea JJJJ - you have now contributed to their demise. :waughh:
