719812 2008-11-12 10:35:00 Hi all,

I'm having problems copying files from a flash drive to my computer's hard drive . When I try to copy the files, it says "Cannot copy: The parameter is incorrect . "

Anyone know what's going on? The files aren't corrupted or anything . I can open them and they work . Anyone know?

I'm running Windows XP . Also im trying to copy files via USB - PCI convertor .

Thanks .

719813 2008-11-12 10:39:00 how big are the files you are trying to copy over? GameJunkie (72)
719814 2008-11-12 11:20:00 how big are the files you are trying to copy over?

They are about 700mb, video files. Every time i try to copy i get the same error on a different file. So i dont think the files are corrupt.

719815 2008-11-12 18:26:00 I saw this problem at a clients house.Showed her how to copy photos on to a flash drive and when she tried from another folder, she managed to copy one and then got a similar notice. The drive wasn't full. And the files weren't read only.
So am interested in the answer as well.

719816 2008-11-12 19:08:00 How are you copying them??

Just highlighting / copy / then pasting?

And what kind of files are they? Just docs / exe files?

719817 2008-11-12 19:37:00 Hi speedy gonzales, I am just copying them like, ctrl C and ctrl V....from the flash drive to the harddrive. And they are video files.

I have also tried copying some appz files and they copied fine without any problem, (prob becos they are very small files or something).

I have another computer and i have also put the USB - PCI convertor in that computer and tried copying those files and same error comes up.

Do you think it could the convertor? Its a new one and only bought it like 1month ago.

719818 2008-11-12 19:40:00 What happens if you copy from the hdd to the USB flash drive??

Does it work, or do you get the same error?

719819 2008-11-12 20:34:00 Path too long...
This should not be a problem in Windows, but still it seems to be
sometimes. When the full path length approaches 120
characters. This is not consistent though. Sometimes it works and
sometimes not.

Illegal characters ...
Use only letters from the english alphabet, numbers and
underscore in file and folder names. Avoid national characters, comma,
hyphen, percent sign, etc. To be on the safe side, even avoid spaces.

File too big for FAT32
Although thats only if you try to copy 4GB or more sized files which you aren't.

719820 2008-11-12 23:07:00 Does this flash drive work at all?
If you make a small text file can you copy it to and from the flash drive?
Maybe the error message is not quite accurate ... proving it does work to some degree should help analysing the issue
