2008-11-14 03:54:00 | I have a Toshiba myself, still going perfectly after a few overseas trips, and 4-5 years of service. A previous Toshiba Satellite I had was also good. Friends have had Acer's and Asus's, they have been good. HP/Compaq laptops I have expereinced problems with, and getting parts for them is a nightmare. Friends dont let friends buy Dell Dell have NO agency here, and the only support is via a helpdesk in Waziristan or Bangladesh or somewhere like that. And you have to send the machine off for repair, and it probably wont get fixed properly. Have heard of Dell laptops doing 5-10 round trips before the original fault gets fixed...

2008-11-14 04:58:00 | As for the Acer / Dells etc - personally I hardly see any, People that buy those defy all their friends who tell them not to buy one, so when it stuffs up which is normally not long after they buy one and after they have spoken to the Tech support 20-30 times throw them out, being too embarrassed to admit their huge blunder to their friends or anyone for that matter.

2008-11-14 15:22:00 | I had a Dell with a broken screen, (no fault of Dells) and when I rang the Dell 0800 number I duly wound up in India. No surprise there. However, after I explained I wanted a new screen, I was given a number to ring which was the number I had used to get the woman I was talking to. That was the only number she had and couldnt help further. :( The machine got binned. Hopeless. :(

2008-11-14 18:23:00 | PC = Personal Computer How would a Mac not be a Personal Computer? Well it is technically. But even Mac themselves don't refer to it as a PC. Remember their PC vs Mac ads on TV? Hi I'm a Mac. And I'm a PC. See?

In my firm we have suppliers that now have overseas phone centres. Even if there English is ok if speaking to them face to face, it has to be exceptionally clear over the phone where S and F, P and C etc can sound so similar. You end up having to spell out some of the words two or three times! I happened to ring up Asus yesterday trying to get the specs on a new computer HN are advertising which wasn't on there website.(Crappy website actually). And although the tech guys were busy at least they were in Auckland. Asus computers are starting to look quite attractive! |
