2006-11-23 07:18:00 | my pc is about 4 months old maybe 3 | killerbob2323 (11512) | |
2006-11-23 07:26:00 | Cost / 2 for each year it is old. E.g. cost = $2000 1yr = $1000 2yr = $500 3yr = $250 etc. that's brutally excessive, try looking at the prices out there for those parts... after 2 years the price doesn't drop so badly, or even 1 year if you bought a lower end system but if you bought an amdFX62 with sli geforce7950GTX and a physX card etc etc the depreciation is about what you said my pc is about 4 months old maybe 3 when you bought it isn't that relevant (in my opinion) as you may have been ripped off or (as it seems) in this case got one hell of a bargain.... now i'll have to ask if killerbob is in NZ or the US, as exchange rates tell me taht that auction is selling for NZ$85 = US$45, which would explain how he got half price..... plus parts are cheaper in the states than in NZ due to market size, plus ridiculous random markups we get here in NZ

2006-11-23 11:18:00 | An old computer (ie not the latest thing) is generally worth f*** all. no not true, although a 'was the best thing out 3 years ago' pc will be worth SIGNIFICANTLY less than it's purchase price, it won't be **** all then again, i call less than $500 **** all (for a computer), you might think otherwise

2006-11-23 11:33:00 | Fair enough dude. I have spent so far in my 55 yr life 30 bucks on computers and that was some overpriced 2nd hand RAM from a comp shop (won't go there again). I get old dungas and clean them up, stick in some spare parts from other old dungas and have never been without a workable machine since about 97. | mark c (247) | |
2006-11-23 11:37:00 | yeah i have a mate who does that to sell on TM to keep his gaming rig alive, and me and my neighbour keep win95 relics (now with win98se) - we sometimes have 'crappy lans' where we play some of the classics like starcraft, mechwarrior2, duke nukem and a-10 cuba:nerd: | motorbyclist (188) | |
