501388 2006-12-11 22:53:00 The other problem is population expansion in the countries which can least afford to educate and feed their populations. There is something ironic when the richest nations on the planet have close to zero population growth and the poorest are expanding every minute.
Perhaps if the children all survive, there is no great pressure to make replacements, whereas if many generations have had a high attrition rate, a big crop of replacement children is needed to ensure survival. When medical and food aid skew the survival rate, the population grows explosively. How many generations will it take to change this ?
A lot, probably. And in the meantime ? ? ? ?

501389 2006-12-12 00:52:00 I'm no expert but I think large families are the norm. The reasons are that historically children often didn't survive to adulthood, so you kept having them. Also a large family meant plenty of helpers to provide work for the family. Furthermore contraception is a very recent development.

In the West we don't need the extra help and we have also become self-interested - consider those who choose not to have children so they can have a career instead. This sounds fine but I've read that psycologists and counsellors are now seeing droves of middle-aged people who are lonely and in anguish over not having children. Not everyone of course.

You are dead right R2x1 - we skew nature when we provide medicine to poor nations and thus unleash their populations. However I cannot say we shouldn't do this - they deserve a chance just as much as us.

501391 2006-12-12 03:24:00 Has anybody read that book 'Hollow Man' yet. It was supposed to be based on e-mails etc.....

Being in the IT industry, I just thought it was strange that none of the people accusing him of stuff realized that the same source of the leaked e-mail, could well have been the instigator of said e-mail all the while Brash didn't have a clue and still doesn't.

Its a pity we rely so heavy on the word of the media who after all, have agenda's at the end of the day!...

501392 2006-12-12 04:11:00 Right wingers always exhibit hubris - haughtiness, arrogance, hauteur, high-handedness, lordliness, overbearing pride or presumption - as has been said earlier up in this thread, they know what is best for you, and if you do not recognize this then they will just go ahead and implement whatever it is they want to do irrespective of the law, not to mention morality or ethics.

They are the feudal landlords and you are the serfs.

I believe that Brash and all his cronies will be guilty of all the accusations put forward in the book and far more not known about at present.

ROFL, I have only just managed to pick myself up off the floor :)

So, give someone enough rope......

Cicero seems to have blown the whistle on his far reich wing friends.

Brash and co. couldn't quite bring themselves to admit to practising the political deceptions described in Hager's book, but instead are desperately trying to divert attention away from that, to making accusations that the documentation was stolen.

Of course the content of the book is completely unaffected by how the documentation was obtained.

By professing that the far reich wing know what is best for the rest of us, and that is is quite legitimate to use deceit to achieve their ends, is tantamount to accepting the veracity of Hager's book, and that is why there is no need for Cicero to read it.

But, even more ironic, even if the documentation was stolen or deceitfully obtained, then applying far reich wing logic, and the principle of what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, this would be acceptable on the basis of the ends justifying the means, why all the fuss from the reich??

So why all the diversionary tactics into the procurement of the documentation?

As is common practice with those to the far right, anyone to their left, even a "conventional conservative" becomes a "lefty", or a "commie".

Solmeister, it is not just "an email", there are hundreds of emails and documents, including extracts from Brash's diary, describing how Brash and his cohorts planned and executed deception on the "chattering masses" as they called the general public.

Nothing wrong with anyone espousing "Rogernomics" , in Brash's case he would have been more honest in joining the ACT party, but Douglas and Richardson among others urged him to go for National, as there would obviously have been no hope for him to be Prime Minister as an ACT MP.

I would have thought the rich got rich by being enterprising, where as the poor find it hard to get off their arses.

Terry wears his old cloth cap at times and that is fine, and his views are understandable and acceptable.
Not sure what sort of cap you wear but it is not the same as Terry is wearing and doesn't belong in this country. You might feel more at home living in a country where you extremist views are more the norm and everyone looks and acts just like you.
