719687 2008-11-12 02:12:00 I haven't found this reported or questioned before, but I might be on old turf here .

Windows XP-P/SP2 yadda yadda .

I found that my NERO Burning ROM engine was using the <root> drive, in this case my C-drive as the temp cache .

I wonder if that's why I am having such long rip/conversion/burn times?

Gonna change it to a different drive and see, but is this the right thing to do?

I swear it took me 01:34:22 to copy one CD of XP-Pro without SP2!

719688 2008-11-12 02:54:00 It shouldn't matter, but can't hurt to put it on a different drive.

What are the specs of the PC in question? Older PCs have never done very well doing this type of processing.

This is what's killing me..this system used to fry the rips and burns so fast it was almost over before it started.

For the past few months I see times crept up from 18 minutes for a full-sized DVD to now over 3 hours of rip time, not counting the burn (which is a lot faster, but somehow slower than it was)

Athlon XP 1.7+, 2G RAM, 8 500G hdds and 1 40G hdd (root), GeForce FX5500-256 MB - 1024 x 768, AGP 4X, 32 bit color quality, 96 DPI, 75Hz monitor rate, paging file size= 6136 MB for all drives. DEP is ON.

719690 2008-11-12 03:12:00 It should be a lot faster.

Is that PC running AVG Joe?

I'd completely uninstall it and try again. If it doesn't make any difference, reinstall, you haven't lost anything.

Good luck.
