719181 2008-11-10 06:05:00 OK, I'm quite proud of myself and have fitted a 2nd harddrive to my HP computer. Can I now transfer all the files etc of my daughters World of Warcraft game to it so that she can play it without losing her ranking or would she have to start from scratch. The operating system is XP and ideally I'd like to transfer her whole account to the new harddrive so that other members of the family have some room on the original harddrive to do there own thing. I think I can but just want to reassure myself cos I do have to live here and if she lost her ranking that might not be possible for me:dogeye: Thanks Folks. Clod (7853)
719182 2008-11-10 06:13:00 The only thing I can think of is to clone your current HDD to your new one then moving My Documents, Mp Pictures etc to your old drive.

Or, I think the WOW profile stuff is somewhere so if you look around you may find it.
Install WOW to your new HDD then copy across the profile data?

Hope this helps :s

719183 2008-11-10 06:14:00 You can move all her docs, music, vids etc just don't know about the WOW stuff all you would need to do is redirect her docs shortcuts to read from the new drive gary67 (56)
719184 2008-11-10 10:20:00 If you're asking whether you can transfer the WOW game only from one drive to the other the answer is no, Blam6's suggestions would be the only way, tricky though, would advise you to ask somebody (geeky relative?) to assist you, using software like this
Seagate
www.seagate.com
Maxtor
www.seagate.com
Western Dig
support.wdc.com
for cloning the drive (what brand of Hdd is it, Seagate, Maxtor, Western Digital etc, you'll need the right software for each brand); this has the most chance of success. This may help also

The second solution depends on finding/transferring/being able to integrate the profiles/data, it may well be possibly easy (I don't have the game :waughh::)), cant find any info on it .

719185 2008-11-10 11:39:00 I don't have the game either but from what I've read the character profile is stored on a WOW Server and your machine just acts as a client, and only stores the settings. Therefore if you just install the game on the new hdd the profile will still be there when you log in, but any mods, setting etc will have to be re-applied unless you copy some files over.

You can find more info about this:

Hope this helps.

719186 2008-11-11 06:55:00 Well, in the end just transferred the WOW folder from the old harddrive to the new and everything is fine. Amazing it was a whole 10G so it certainly freed up some space on the old 40G harddrive.:clap Clod (7853)
719187 2008-11-11 07:01:00 You could move the contents of the My Documents/Pictures/Music etc to the new drive too, to free up even more space.

First copy the files to the new drive.

To tell Windows that you've moved them, right click on the My Documents icon in the Start Menu (or desktop) and click Properties.

Then go to the Location tab and type the path to the new folder on the new drive. Click OK - it will ask you if you want to move them; say No as you already have copied the files. Repeat this for My Pictures/My Music/My Videos if you wish.

When it is set up properly, delete the files in the old path (if it's XP it'll be C:\Documents and settings\(username)\My Documents or if it's Vista it'll be C:\Users\(username)\Documents
