720424 2008-11-15 20:47:00 Hi, I recently used my friends internet and noticed that it was very very slow. The page load times were long and the download speeds were terrible at best, I'm talking 6kbps at best, 49bytes at worst.

They have Xtra Broadband, I'm guessing the 1GB plan as they pay $30 a month. I first thought they might have gone over their data allowance but they then told me that its been like that for the last few months.

Is there anything that could be preventing them from getting what they're paying for? Because no-one should put up with Dial-Up speeds when they're paying for high-speed internet.

I recently rid their computer of 6 Trojans and 3 other viruses, I only uses spyware removal programs because when I went to download Avast and Spybot, their connection was so poor that they kept losing connection with the server and the download kept reseting and I got nowhere. Could there still be a virus of some sort on the computer restricting their use? or what?

Any help appreciated, Thanks.

Oh and their USB's don't work for some strange reason, like you'd connect your phone and it would charge but nothing would come up under "My Computer", I say this as using a Flash-Drive is pointless but much needed. Thanks again.

720425 2008-11-15 20:49:00 Have they contacted Xtra about it? chapnis (14311)
720426 2008-11-15 20:52:00 No, they haven't, I told them to but they wouldn't know what to say as they don't know much about computer related things. Craig Mellor (13762)
720427 2008-11-15 20:56:00 Whatever they had probably infected their USB flash drives / removable drives as well.

If they thought Xtra was bad, try using Xnet lol

There's probably something on their system now. I would somehow get them to post a HJT log.

720428 2008-11-15 21:04:00 Oh ok, if I post their HJT log will the problem most likely show up there? Craig Mellor (13762)
720429 2008-11-15 21:06:00 If theyre still infected, the file/s may appear in the log, yup

It could be something in startup, on their system

720430 2008-11-15 21:17:00 Yea true, thanks, I'll post that in a new thread in the next few days probably, depends when I go to their house next, and if it will download without losing the connection to the server.

Thanks.

720431 2008-11-15 21:49:00 Do you have a CD burner?? & have they got a CD player?

As if you have a CD burner & The have a CD player in there computer, you could burn HijackThis and any other software you need to use to a CD.
