720285 2008-11-15 01:05:00 Parents are thinking about getting ConvertXtoDVD so we can watcmovies on the computer on the big screen, but I know DVDFlick can do the job too.

Any opinions?

Both take advantage of multi-threading which is good but does anyone know how long it takes?

i.e could someone with both programs test out the times it takes to convert the movie file?

Most of the movies are .avi and divx/xvid

Cheers

720286 2008-11-15 05:58:00 Done a couple of DVD's with ConvertX - on the PC I use - takes about 45 minutes to make a DVD from A 700Mb AVI file compared to 1.5 - 2 hours (from memory) on DVD Flick.

ConvertX is Not free - well it is if you want to have an annoying watermark in the middle of your DVD - where as DVD Flick is Free.

720288 2008-11-15 06:44:00 Before you buy it - Id Suggest you download the trial Version ( has the watermark) Thats free - make a DVD and see what you think - then if you like the results then purchase it. One of the features i like over DVD flick is the settings allow you to change a Lot to suit what you want. One I have used is the menus Settings (www.imagef1.net.nz) - Did a family one a while back, and the main menu when played made it look more professional as you can select different styles. wainuitech (129)

Ummm.. last time I looked, handbrake was for going the other way. (eg: re-encoding DVD's to a single video file)

720294 2008-11-17 06:58:00 Just done a burn of an Xvid movie with both the latest ConvertX and DVDFlick. Flick does take longer, sorry didn't time it as I did it before I read this post. The DVD's vob files sizes, from ConvertX - 2.92 Gb, Flick - 4.19 Gb.
Just been comparing the playback quality on our 21 inch TV and I'm certain that the Flick DVD is sharper, more detailed.
So now I know that I'll be staying with DVDFlick for quality.
