720228 2008-11-14 11:50:00 Hey, its me again :D

Now that I've finally chosen all my computer components (which came to $2054 :S) I need to find a nice monitor to plug it all into.

I'd like a widescreen LCD monitor, either 22" or 24". HDCP compliant which DVI (and maybe HDMI) input. I'll have the radeon ati 4850 1gb graphic card.

Now I do not know much about what looks good at which resolution, or what resolution games should/are played at so do not really know how to choose a decent monitor.

The Dell S2409W looks like a good full HD monitor and got decent reviews but its $600, which might be a bit much given that all the other stuff came to a bit more than what I expected.

So, what do you recommend I get? Is it a good idea to get a full hd monitor if I'll just play computer games on it?

Thanks again everyone (I won't make any more topics, promise :))

Well its a good card but not top end.

The higher the resolution in games, the better the card you need to keep both effects and frame rate up.

You want 22 or 24 so the native resolution is going to be high anyway. Got a crossfire motherboard??

720230 2008-11-14 19:38:00 This (www.pricespy.co.nz) new ViewSonic looks pretty decent.
Full HD (1920x1080) but not sure if the DVI is HDCP or not.

720231 2008-11-14 20:28:00 Similar to what pctek said, keep in mind that the bigger the LCD, the larger the resolution is required to run your game at a decent quality (native resolution). Hence in the long run, how well your game will stack up with the latest release of game will correlate to the size of your LCD. Of course this is all assuming you dont prefer running games in Window mode ^^

But 22" is more like a standard now days. Samsung Syncmaster series are pretty good for its quality and price.

I will have a look around a few shops today. I think a 22" will do just fine yeah and that graphic card should hopefully work nicely with it!

720233 2008-11-14 21:38:00 Sounds like your getting close to a build

I have bought 4 monitors from eoneonline they are useually the cheapest and offer a full three year warranty on most monitors.

Ha just had alook at pricespy from CYaBro and looks like they are the cheapest again.

Just ring to confirm stock, these days you don't have to spend $600 to get a screen that will suit your needs.

720234 2008-11-14 22:35:00 Be careful with the prices from Eoneonline, they don't include GST. The GST is not added until you go to checkout. The Viewsonic VX2233 WM from them would cost me $389-25 that includes freight. If I was to buy the same from Ascent it would cost me $361-91. they don't charge freight. I know were I would buy from. Not every dealer uses Price Spy.

720235 2008-11-14 22:55:00 Sorry I think I'm confused the link I gave to Eone shows the viewsonic
costing $298+gst that makes it $335.25INC

Pricespy price for eone is including gst if you have a look!!!
