Writing in Nature, the team says that the mechanism was "technically more complex than any known device for at least a millennium afterwards". |

| 503246 | 2006-11-30 08:30:00 | Imagine if it had been used to send email....it could have been designed to compute the recipients IP (incoming papyrus) address, and it was obviously engineered to deliver a software solution. Had they opted for a hard-coded delivery system, the incoming marble tablets would have wiped out half the population within a few months. Spam would have been an interesting development as well, the early adopters could easily have been buried alive within minutes if their IP address got into the wrong hands. They could have used an alias address of course, but digging him out from under each morning would have been a slow business and potentially a messy one. No alias receiver would have remained alive for long under that onslaught. They did invent the first reality games though, with first person players and lots of blood and gore. Every episode was different too, but heavily weighted in favour of the gladiators and lions which probably got quite boring after a while and they would have started slipping cheat codes for knives and swords to the christians and slaves to even up the games. Once they invented pizza it was all over of course and they just lost interest. Cheers Billy 8-{) |
