| 503098 | 2006-11-29 23:20:00 | CIA director General Michael Hayden was recently in the country for a SIS birthday party. Now, i have no idea if the United States Air Force C-17 Globemaster actually flew over Christchurch, but the photo i took the other day looks very similar if not exactly the same as the real deal. Photo (www.jeremybank.com) The front door was locked for some reason so i was scuttling around trying to get to a door that was open and take a photo, its the best i could do. |

Sure I saw Winston Peters get on the plane....the next Republican nominee for the White House? Being referred to as Mr President might be enough for him short-term. Not sure where he can go from there though....the Vatican? TM |

The actual president, v-president, senator or whatever fly via large, but actually airliner-type aircraft . I really enjoyed when Nixon came aboard the ship I was on . . there were about 5 or 6 decoy AirForce-1 helicopters that were all alike and only 1 had the real president onboard . We were out for the Apollo moonlanding splash down and had quite a few Russian ships in the area too so you can imagine the security! |

| 503102 | 2006-11-30 03:57:00 | I actually liked the guy . . . after all the stuff about the splashdown was over for the day, Nixon found that I was the only guy on board the ship from California, and came to the mess deck where he sat at my table during dinner . We got to talk about surfing and Huntington Beach and where he was born and other things in California . He asked me if I knew where he was born in Yorba Linda, and after I said yes, he asked me if the place had changed since he became president, I told him: "Yes, sir, they made the sign bigger" . He laughed and later on that evening, I got the opportunity to call my wife on a "Hot line" briefcase phone that one of the secret service guards brought to me . She and I spoke for at least an hour . I hadn't been home for 11 months . . . it was very kind of the president to let me do that . I was also one of Nixon's honor guards when he and President Tu of Viet Nam had their Midway Island peace conference, and then a few years later when I was out of the navy I got an invitation to the opening of his memorial library in Yorba Linda, his birthplace . When he died, I got an engraved invitation to his memorial . I went . Someone in his entourage remembered me and got the invitation to me via special courier . I was a nobody . . . but they remembered the laugh Nixon and I had about the sign in Yorba Linda . I found him to be a warm and interested person who was in the wrong place at the wrong time . He had a way of making one feel important . . . important enough to listen to somebody like me . Now . . . you all know that I am not politically active . . . even shun voting and such . . . but I truly enjoyed meeting this man . . . . I am everso the better for that opportunity . |
