| 503107 | 2006-11-29 23:18:00 | For what its worth, i stopped and had a chat with a transfield contractor on the side of the road after an exam today. I asked whether fibre optic was being installed. Appears they were only doing some copper maintenance (pulling it through underground pipes) The papanui and belfast exchanges are soon to be linked with a decent fibre optic link, which may mean better backhaul. Telstraclear are also installing or soon to install their own equipment into exchanges. This too involves some fibre optic work. After a bit more interrogation, the contractor stated that some roadside cabinets are being upgraded and expanded to cope with unbundling and extra adsl capacity AND there are plans in place for fibre to the cabinet in some areas. Well there we go, straight from the source. Thought it might be of some interest. We can live in hope... hehe. |
