502879 2006-11-29 02:34:00 Finally got around to trying the FltSim X demo on the PC World DVD, and found that a comedy spot was provided.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Microsoft Windows Vista
Flight Simulator X is designed to run on the Windows Vista operating system but was released prior to the completion of Windows Vista.
· If you start the Input Method Editor (IME) and then start a Flight Simulator X multiplayer session, the IME language bar may be permanently hidden when you quit Flight Simulator X. You may have to restart Windows Vista to see the IME again.
· When running Flight Simulator X in windowed mode (as opposed to full screen mode) on Windows Vista, Flight Simulator X may appear to stop operating. Flight Simulator X actually keeps running, but in order for the window to refresh, you must follow these steps to temporarily disable the Vista Glass and Aero features:
To disable Windows Vista features globally
1. Right-click the Windows desktop and then click Personalize.
2. Click Windows Color and Appearance.
3. Clear the Enable Transparency check box.
4. In the color scheme list, select Windows Vista Basic.
5. Click OK.
To re-enable Windows Vista features globally
1. Right-click the Windows desktop and then click Personalize.
2. Click Windows Color and Appearance.
3. In the color scheme list, select Windows Vista Aero.
4. Click OK.
To disable Windows Vista features globally only when running Flight Simulator X
1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder in which you installed Flight Simulator X.
2. Right-click on FSX.exe and then click Properties.
3. On the Compatibility tab, select the Disable desktop composition check box.
4. Click OK. Flagship Features conflict with Flagship Program? :help: Surely not? Must be a hardware problem :badpc:
For me, it seems to run with the agility of a sloth in a tarpit.:groan: (Athlon xp2400, GeForce4 128M 8x, 1G ram, 2x80G HD)

502882 2006-11-29 03:41:00 This is exactly the sort of thing that causes me to ignore MS Updates and take care of things myself with 3rd party apps. pctek (84)
502883 2006-11-29 09:22:00 That PC is so weak, what do you expect? Playing fire with gasoline? Every gamers know what games run best on their PC and this dude really need to know how to play games on the right PC.
Beta Vista is not ready for consumer use except BETA. I'm looking forward for Flight Simulator X on my new PC. Wonder if that better than previous versions. Too bad no PC on my house can play flight simulator X well for now.

502884 2006-11-29 09:37:00 Is that video chipset the TI or MX version?

Though I suppose it makes little difference, this game reportedly is very CPU reliant and can bring even the latest and greatest to its knees.

Though, It is MS after all, its the least we can expect.

502885 2006-11-29 12:21:00 TI4200, but it's the aircraft dynamics that disappoint, too much effort into scenery, and aircraft that fly in a (ahem) microsoft way. Must be the world's most aerobatic Baron, and the most control-restricted trike ever. The bit that amused me was the fact that it breaks Vista. Back to X-planes. R2x1 (4628)

Either buy a new computer or get rid of fsx. You've nowhere near enough to run fsx anywhere new properly.

502887 2006-11-29 19:25:00 It's also pointless to judge FSX from a demo.

But yeah, running it on a 4200? Come one. I could slip you half a dozen games that wouold choke on that. But yes, MS's ill-advised "minimum specs" for FSX are a joke. You have to wonder if the development team were consuklted at all by the marketing team on that one .....
