Im in chch we had a loud thunderstorm but no rain or hail which i thought was very unusual.

Not very large but lots of it. I was in Colorado years ago and experienced golf ball size hail that did millions of dollars of damage to cars - now THAT was a hail storm and I was lucky to be indoors.
