502642 2006-11-30 04:18:00 Unfortunately we have quite a few exceptions to your rule, Joe.
(Maybe roots go deeper in cooler climes than yours)

My garden's most obvious example of a virtually unkillable, long-rooted unweedoutable perennial pest is the dock plant.
If you don't get them while they're young, they'll outlive you...
They've no flowers that you ever notice, but somehow produce enormous heads of seed while your back's turned.
Water with" Roundup",that'l slow em down a bit.

Normal strength Roundup barely makes my Old Man docks blink.

And the stronger stuff that slows them down has to be kept off everything else around them or I'd have a waste land.
These babies are tough ... and they know just which precious plants to grow alongside.

502644 2006-11-30 09:17:00 That's what I thought when I found some of that cluttering up native bush, Winston.
But the young couple next door explained that it was a new variety of tomato plant & they were experimenting with different growing conditions.
I don't think they fruited well, though.
Errrrr ? Tomatoes or young couple

502645 2006-11-30 09:32:00 Hey Laura..

Try some rock salt like you use in water softners......( i think 10 kg bags at the farm supplie places ..........on a hot sunny day with the plant a little damp......about a teaspoon on each plant or more if a huge size plant. burns em off good.... kills most plants i have ever tried to kill........... did acres of lawns this way........

this has worked on everything i have ever thrown it at........ weed wise. not tried on anything tree like........ woodchippers work better then. :D

502646 2006-11-30 10:01:00 Sounds interesting, beetle.
I've never used a water softener, but no doubt can find a rock salt brand name at my CRT or similar (Combined Rural Traders)

And R2x1 - the answer is both.
Possibly a fertilisation problem...

502650 2006-12-01 15:43:00 I have found the "weed v plant" axiom:

Let my dog run in the yard for a few minutes....what she tears out was plants, and what's left is weeds.

502651 2006-12-02 07:56:00 Around here, until recently a peacock did the job, but a dog would have been quieter. R2x1 (4628)
