720434 2008-11-15 23:54:00 Do the basics first.
Have they got a Telecom installed filter or filters on all phone jacks used? All phone jacks also includes Sky. An unfiltered Sky phone jack can kill broadband.

Unplug all phone jacks except the broadband modem and test. Filters can be faulty.

Can they use the phone and broadband at the same time? I have had a case where client got broadband, plugged it in and dialup settings didn't change so still dialed up using dialup connection.

Log into the modem and see what connection speed it is showing.

Are they using USB or ethernet to connect to the modem. If both unplug the USB and use ethernet.

And as already posted run antivirus and spyware removal programs.

720435 2008-11-16 01:50:00 Yea they mentioned something about their filters but I was leaving at the time so I'll check them when I go next, tomorrow maybe. I think they can be on the phone and net at the same time. I'm pretty sure they're using an ethernet cord to connect to the modem.

And how do you log into the modem? they have a D-Link, and so do I (different though), and I type the url: 10.1.1.1 to check mine, is this what you mean? and if it is how do you check your speed from there?

Thanks.

720436 2008-11-16 02:17:00 Should be 10.1.1.1 but if that doesn't work go run, type cmd and click OK, then type ipconfig and push enter. The defualt gateway ip address is the one to use to access the modem. Once in the modem look for WAN or status or something along those lines. It will show the up and down line speed. berryb (99)
720437 2008-11-16 03:05:00 Hi, I checked mine under: Status, ADSL - which showed this:

Item Downstream Upstream Unit
SNR Margin 12 12 dB
Line Attenuation 21 9 dB
Data Rate 14924 736 kbps

So their's should be something similar to mine then.

Thanks.
