Even if you have to be creative, you have the end result (2017) so make the figures fit. If you cannot do that in an hour, I would be horrified. Remember nobody can prove the mileage at any specific point, but do take into account any WOF date when there will be a record of actual mileage and make it fit. That you even need to ask this question is a worry... |

| 502751 | 2006-11-29 10:15:00 | Tweaké and shorty have missed the point. The claim is being made on km's travelled using the IRD reimbursing rate, not a % of actual expenses. Therefore a logbook must be kept at all times, not just 3 months. all i did orginally is have log book for 3 months to prove useage then bill all vechile exspeces to the buisness. nice and simple. |

That you even need to ask this question is a worry... Well I wanted to see if I could do it without lying to the Inland revenue .... I can get about half back by looking at my invoices - as I said, I do a lot of non-invoiced travel for business purposes. I can make it fit easily enough, but that would involve making things up - things that will have happened none the less (eg 2 bank visits per week = 60 bank visits = 480km of banking) but I'd still rather avoid that route if possible. Wasn't intentional :D . The business is working out really well, I've at last got to the point where I have enough happy customers to not need to spend hideous, exhorbitant amounts of money on advertising (made this seem like buying a CD, don't take that ratio literally :eek:) - it's all word of mouth . At the rate it's going I'll be working too much by the time school starts, though, so I'll have to either hire someone to take up the excess, or somehow . . . . get rid . . . . of my customers which I see as horrific wastage . Anyway, thanks for all your help guys, the IRD found me a solution, namely get 3 months starting now, use it to work out the number of average weekly kilometers and carry that back to the beginning . I have a feeling that will come out as a whole lot more than 2000km, due to the amount the business has grown, but I'm not complaining and IRD are happy with it :D . |
