720047 2008-11-13 19:19:00 All of our PCs connect to the networked printer (an Epson Stylus 6900F) through an XP Pro SP2 computer. The other XP computers on the network have no problems with the printer, but when I try to print from either Vista PC (be it the tablet PC or mine), it locks up. It does eventually print however, so it does work, just slowly.

It only happens when the computer tries to connect to the printer - if I print when another printer is the default, nothing out of the ordinary happens.

I'm not quite sure what's causing the problem, whether it's the driver, XP's older networking settings or Vista's new ones. I have tried updating the driver on the XP PC, then reinstalling the printer on the Vista machines, but to no avail. :help:

720048 2008-11-13 19:31:00 Have you installed the latest vista driver on the Vista PCs rather than getting it over the network? wratterus (105)
720049 2008-11-13 19:32:00 I think I have, and the installer didn't see it. I'll try again though.

EDIT: I tried, and it didn't find it - even though I selected the virtual USB port. :(

720050 2008-11-13 21:13:00 Remember that vista does not work properly on a windows xp network unless it has been set up right.
Something Microsoft said about vista being made to run on a vista network with server 2008 and not xp.
Sorry i can help you any more than this but i dont think very straight when i wake up:annoyed::sleep.
But there is probably someone whos more awake than me that can give you more info

720051 2008-11-13 21:19:00 Are you referring to LLTD? If so, all XP machines on our network have it. pcuser42 (130)
720052 2008-11-13 22:33:00 I print from a Vista machine to an XP machine with attached ptr. I tried stopping it but couldn't! My ptr on the Vista machine uses port LPT1.

Your reply to Wratterus wasn't very clear. Like he said, make sure the Vista ptr dvr is installed on the Vista machines.

720053 2008-11-13 22:36:00 It is. I installed the Vista driver on the XP machine some time ago, which was then installed on the Vista machines. This didn't help. pcuser42 (130)
720054 2008-11-14 01:04:00 I have just spent most of the morning trying to debug printer sharing on my vista machine.
At boot up it tries to enable the sharing and fails for some unknown reason. Check your event log for errors on your vista box.
As you can see I gave up... usb key to the rescue!

720055 2008-11-14 02:19:00 There's nothing in the Event Log about that particular printer. pcuser42 (130)
720056 2008-11-14 03:35:00 No idea then...
Check the net for ms issues on printer sharing with vista/your printer
Check the services of xp and vista both for your printer services.
Something must pop up there when you print, hope you can see it (start task manager 1st).
Try installing another printer on XP (say generic text) and try to print to it?
good luck...
