502480 2006-11-27 11:24:00 Does anyone use them?

What sort of fees do they charge you for this account? (apart from the tax on interest)
Do you get charged for paper statements?

I'm thinking of either KiwiBank or Raboplus and if anyone used them I could get an idea of what would be better suited for monthly interest.

I have a raboplus account. A while back I was thinking of opening a savings account, and was looking at Superbank with it's 7.3% interest rate, no fees, etc etc, but when I eventually got around to filling out the application form and posting it away, they shut up shop...

So I went to Raboplus - with impeccable timing, they had an ad that said "Looking for a replacement for Superbank...?". Signing up is a piece of cake. You fill out the form in a browser window, as a series of prompts, and it produces the customised form for you to print out, sign, and post away.

There are no fees. At all. (except for tax, but that goes to the government, rather than Raboplus. 7.35% interest on any balance, for any term.

Your raboplus account is linked to any current account with a "regular" bank. You can then set up transfers to and from these accounts, or setup a regular deposit schedule. They also send you an independent ID verifier device, looks a bit like a small calculator. To login to Raboplus, you enter your customer number on the website, and your 5 digit PIN into the verifier device - this gives you a six digit code, (which can be used only once) which you enter into the website to complete login. A similar process, with a couple of extra steps, is used to verifiy transactions.

I'm very happy with Raboplus. I think Kiwibank have some limits (min deposit $1000) which Raboplus don't have, plus I think RP is more secure...

502482 2006-12-03 01:20:00 Hi bob_doe_nz,
I use RaboPlus as well and I'm quite happy with them so far. If you're familiar with internet banking, then using RaboPlus would be easy as pie. Plus, if you join before the 22nd of December, you have a chance to win $2,000!

They don't send you any paper statements (all part of the 'zero fees' package), but you can easily do this yourself. Your statements will be generated in a PDF format which you can then print for your own records. You can also download CSV format statements if you use a money software to track your financials.

If you already have a Kiwibank account, may I suggest you keep a small amount of cash in a high-interest Kiwibank savings account as a short-term emergency fund. While they do have same-day transfer, it may take up to 2 days to transfer money in between RaboPlus and your designated checking account.

Edit: That said, you might be interested in this blog post about saving (www.thesimpledollar.com).

AS they say, don't put all your eggs in one basket. It is a good idea to share your money around various banks. Remember that banks can fail, eg the BNZ and PSIS(not really a bank)

Yes, and on the same note, to not just rely on high-interest savings accounts as your nest egg.
