504610 2006-12-06 10:14:00 I feel my broadband is quite slow, is there any way to measure the distance between my home and Xtra's exchange server?

BTW, I am with Xtra Go Large Plane.

Thank you.

504611 2006-12-06 10:21:00 Find out where the exhange is, and either drive there, measuring the distance on your car's odometer, or walk it using a pedometer (1000 steps = +/- 1 km). I'm guessing the lines will more or less follow the route of the road. Greg (193)

You’re not the only one who has had this problem (or still have this problem), take a look at this thread: . pcworld . co . nz/showthread . php?t=73589" target="_blank">pressf1 . pcworld . co . nz & . co . nz/search . php?searchid=722313" target="_blank">pressf1 . co . nz &

The best thing to do is ring up / e-mail Xtra & complain to them & after a while your speeds will get better :) (take for example us when we first went to Xtra Go Large we got 40 – 50 KB/s & less then after we complain to them we started getting 1 – 2 MB/s then lately we have been getting 300 – 400 KB/s

I Hope this helps & best of luck :)

Don't worry about it, distance isn't necessarily the problem . I am 300-400 metres from my exchange and get around 600k .

504614 2006-12-06 19:56:00 Here's (users.on.net) a link to an excel spreadsheet that can work out your distance to the exchange.
Don't know how accurate it is though.
You will need to log into your adsl router to find your download attenuation.

If you're into PC repair, why haven't we seen a newspaper report with a survey of all your customers poor results in your local area. Unfortunately by now everyone is used to your individual situation.

Your smartass remarks aren't needed.

504617 2006-12-07 03:00:00 Was a serious suggestion. The people in Christchurch didn't get immediate action by acting individually. PaulD (232)
504618 2006-12-07 04:47:00 You don't know what we in our town have done or not done to complain .

You have assumed it was only me .

You were wrong .

Regardless there are tons of people all over the country off many exchanges that have similar problems - one small town of 530 people aren't going to get much media coverage .
