504405 2006-12-05 07:26:00 It seems like everyday an ISP has a problem..they blame telecom...telecom blames them..blah blah. Why is it that we seem to have so many problems ?
Do other countries have as many problems ? Shouldn't everyone (ISPs) have back ups etc.

There are lost of reason why All the ISP's are having problems

But one of the main reasons in my option why many of the ISP’s are having problems is:

Growth - they get too much growth in a short time which causes issues as the ISP’s haven’t planed for the extra grow in such a short period of time, take for example last year when orcon had major problems because they had the best broadband plans around & everyone got piss of with them & left, then orcon fix there problems & added extra room for all the clients & now there one of the better ISP around at the moment that don’t have issues.

Or in Xtra / telecom issues is lack of investment in there network & not knowing how poplar there Xtra Go large plan would be.

Do other countries have as many problems ?

Yes & No as with anything new there will be problems & problems take a while to sort out I would give a example but I have not read of any of late.

I Hope this option is of some help :)

504407 2006-12-05 09:15:00 It's probably a bit of both. Some things are Telecom's fault, but at the same time, if an ISP knows people already get frustrated with Telecom, it is easier to blame them than admit it is their own problem. My take on the matter is that under investment has resulted in a network that for the most part is well past it's due by date (I don't have a clue how much they spend, but if other countries with similar population densities are able to offer more reliable and faster internet services, one would imagine it is primarily the result of greater investment in infrastructure).

I supposed the benefit of using Xtra is that they can't blame anyone other than themselves. I've also got a number of problems (only connected at 2MBit now rather then the old 3.5MBit or new "unleashed" speeds as well as random disconnects every few hours) that have occurred in the last few months which I will contact them about eventually. Hopefully I will get better feedback than what I have read about in posts like yours and others here. :)

504408 2006-12-05 10:40:00 There should be a static page that has generalizations of broadband problems. People are asking much the same question over and over jermsie (6820)

I have been thinking about seeing it its worth doing a page for FAQF1.

504410 2006-12-05 11:06:00 Maybe a set of stocks (en.wikipedia.org)could be set up in each built-up area, all ISP CEO's could tour the country and get a bit of feedback on public opinion.
They have pilloried a captive market long enough.
The resulting compost could grow enough to feed a small deprived republic somewhere.

504411 2006-12-05 11:11:00 Telecon is profit based rather than mission based, the situation will remain the same as long as vital country building enterprises are mistakenly left to private companies in the forlorn hope that efficiencies will result because of the "invisible hand of the market".

We have been conned by the American right wing economists and their self serving BS and let down by our so-called intellectuals/politicians who are nothing but talking head/glove puppets.

How do ISP's have backups when the problem is the main service centre being Telecom? Untill Telecom is opened up to other companies the service will always be rather crap. They have no real competition to go by. They own the lines they do what they want.
