504222 2006-12-04 20:44:00 OK, I'm happy to have a chuckle over the Waikato Maori and the Police Iwi Laison dept watering the highway (it's their belief and no different from Catholics sprinkling things with holy water that I can tell)

What opened my eyes was the comment from the Police Iwi officer saying "It went really well... idealy should be done once a year... doesn't just benefit Maori."

That last part appears to be a justification and annoys me. Fine if Maori want to do things like that (and pay out of their own pockets), but don't try to justify your actions- it's a Maori ceremony, end of story.

I wonder how many people would be amused at the sight of the Pope straddling a tanker doing 80kmph spraying water over the road? Sounds like the makings of a bad Monty Python skit to me.

504223 2006-12-04 21:43:00 Superstition is always bad in my view, whoever is doing it. I notice however that Maori superstition gets official state support, whereas Christian religions have to pay for their own rituals. chainey (9225)

Yeah, right. :groan:
The annual cost of pandering to superstition of whatever variety must be immense. No worries though, we'll be recompensed when we die.
The mental picture of a hydraulic pope-mobile is appealing though.

504226 2006-12-05 04:51:00 Yep, but you know, it gives the police yet another excuse to force us into a crawl below the 70kmh that people seem to be intent on doing on the open road at the moment. :( Antmannz (6583)

Yes, if you had an accident it could be considered a 'premeditated act of God' (depending if Iwi or the Pope were involved) and the insurance company could refuse to pay out :horrified

yes but unfortunately we get reported when we voice "unnacceptable" or "offenseive" opinions, regardless of whether or not we're right (or wrong),and it prevents us from discussing and resolving the issues
