503372 2006-11-30 22:19:00 Telecom sales staff are knocking on doors around the country to poach broadband customers from ihug and Slingshot, even though the telco giant has admitted causing some of the network problems that have affected them......

503374 2006-11-30 23:02:00 Telecom outsource them to 3rd parties like door knocking marketing firms who sell anything from cellphone to broadband to insurance or wine or what not.

I applied to a job long time ago for marketing events and it turned out to a door knocking, I had to go via with a few hours with a staff member. Obviously I turned the job down. They even said it will be a week of no pay probation period :annoyed:

Regarding when they say are you having difficulties with disconnections and slow speeds not sure who its from, it can be the firm or Telecom. But they generally say/ask, do you have BB, if so who with, how much do you pay and they handle out the incentives like free connection and stuff and maybe waive the transfer ISP fee and stuff to get them onboard. There is obviously a contract to sign which the guy has like a pad of it, when one is completed its ripped off a copy to them and one for the firm. Most pple don't read the contract anyway, they just sign it on the spot or they get the guy to complete it for them and they the customer just signs it. They may pitch is saying are you having issues, what issues, and they may say Telecom has no issues of this kind blah blah and they give them all the assurances and maybe even say Xtra the no. 1 provider for NZ.

Not sure about subscription but when I was there for that few hours, they were selling Telecom cellphones. If the phone is $250 for say contract, not sure if it was prepay or not. Anyway, the salesman gets $250 per customer he or she signs up, the firm and Telecom gets commission I guess from Telecom via other ways like subscription fees or like prepay topping up. I think it was a kind of subscription fee contract than prepay. There are money to be made, they target residential streets strategically they may work from 10am or more like 11am or 12pm and til like 8 or such, in otherwords they target when pple are most likely to be at home.

To look official they would have Telecom neck straps embedded passport photo's with the Telecom background on them. They are also given a Telecom cellphone and it can be used as a demonstration to the client.

503375 2006-12-01 09:54:00 Yeah most of my work this year has been Door-to-door. Namely Census and Transport. You are trained up, learn how to deal with the roudy bunch and get in and out and onto the next house before getting a breather :D

For the census I averaged upto 100 houses a day (with 60% home). But alas you have to go back to the ones you missed and thats when it gets hard. I had the largest zone in my area of 560 houses. Had 11 days to do that. And it's sad because I still remember the template we had to say :(

But I think Consumer Link actually took on the project for Telecom but I haven't been called yet and don't want to be :)
