Some Seagate hard drives had a three year warranty but this went up to five years. Other hard drives went from three years down to one year. Once I was asked about a computer that a person bought and when delivered would not boot. This one had one of these stickers and I said to the buyer well I can open it but I would advise to send it back. He said to open it anyway which I did. I found that there were no clips fitted and the CPU had fallen out in transit. There were no spare clips in the case and therefore I assumed there were no clips fitted in the first place. Another computer I was involved with was bought for my then boss. The cable for the floppy disk was not connected and I had said that I want all disks and want to install all software myself. This was when we did not have CDROM drives. The O/S was win 3.11 and came on about 7 floppy 3.5 " disks. A few of those were driver disks for printers etc. |

I've worked for both retail and wholesale places and I can tell you the manufacturers warranty has nothing to do with how many of anything you buy from them. I doubt that many places in NZ apart from HP or Dell would be buying in sufficient quantity. From Seagate "Why do I have to go back to my place of purchase to return a drive that was sold as a system component? Seagate sells many drives to direct customers who use them as a computer system component. In these cases, the Limited Warranty only extends to Seagate's direct customers and is not assignable or transferable. You must contact your place of purchase for warranty support. " |

Forcing one to damage a CPU or PSU because one cannot perform normal customer-related maintenance is too far out of reality . Damned if you do; damned if you don't . |
