503676 2006-12-12 10:05:00 ... but I am sure we can determine a better number in the future. From this, am I to assume this may end up being a yearly thing? One would hope not as one might see Metla getting a larger head every year :p

Also means I have a year to try and stifle my popularity here ... I'm sick of being popular

503677 2006-12-12 14:02:00 Many, many people contribute both to the techncial sides of things as well as the community side of PF1 so it is hard to pick out anyone in particular.

I know of lots of cases where the helper has obviously spent some time researching a problem or answering in detail a question for a person, posted their advice and then they never hear back or get a single word of thanks from the original poster. It can be frustrating and I imagine they wonder why they bother at times. However, they still continue to generously give their time to others who are struggling with issues - minor or major. That is the spirit of PressF1 - giving without the expectation of reward. :)

Godfather is the other person I wish to put forward. A fountain of knowledge. What else can I say.
:p

That is why I nominated Jen. I would also like to make Godfather my second nomination.

Wonderfully stated Jen. We do indeed have a special community here on PF1.

Quotes to ponder:

Some of the greatest accomplishments go unnoticed
because the world expects too much of heroes.
The best in life comes from ordinary people doing
ordinary things extraordinarily well.
- Bob Perks

If you do good for people, you are doing it
out of your nature. Forget about how they
behave, what their reaction towards you is.
It's up to them. Let them carry their cross.
Keep your mind free.

I think Metla gets a large head considerably more often than once a year and no amount of annual adulation will make a difference :stare:

I'd have to agree with Jen's 'Ode to PF1'... think of it as working in Tech Support all day, but not getting paid and you'll realise that the good people who answer the call for help repeatedly on PF1 go well beyond the call of duty... if they turn up wearing pink fluffy slippers or aren't there within seconds of the cry for help- be patient and thank your lucky stars they came at all. Most of all don't forget to thank them- because you never know when the next train wreck will be

Oh wait, what's in this shiny new box.... hmmm Vista, this looks like fun, wonder what it does? :D

(I was going to swap Vista for Linux , but it might make Jen pull her hair out!)
