720623 2008-11-16 18:56:00 I bought a 2007 Dell Latitude D620 laptop from a company that were closing down.

I downloaded Itunes, it launched automatically and i began uploading music.

now when i try to launch it via the shortcut, or by double clicking an mp3 file on the desktop... I get the following error.

"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer, please contact your systems administrator."

The company has now shut down.. and i cant contact any admin obviously.

HOW CAN I GET AROUND THIS?!?!?!

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

720624 2008-11-16 19:03:00 Did you do a virus scan??

Does this message come up when you try and run anything?
Speedy Gonzales (78)
720625 2008-11-16 19:07:00 No, no scan. I literally only turned the computer on yesterday.

I havent really installed any other programmes yet, but paint and firefox are working fine.

I seem to be able to run windows media player too.

thanks for the quick reply.

720626 2008-11-16 19:09:00 Get hijackthis below, if you can.

Get the install file. Install it. Click on scan the system and save a log. Copy and paste the log here
Speedy Gonzales (78)
720627 2008-11-16 19:23:00 cool, when i run it it brings up a checklist.

is that what i paste here? or do i need to select some, or all?
chrisled (14324)

720629 2008-11-16 19:39:00 Is this a work computer, since its part of a domain?

Thats probably why youre getting that message

You can tick these then tick fix checked

Close browsers

This maybe here, because youre on a domain

Uninstall all versions of Java, yours is out of date. Link for update below

720630 2008-11-16 19:43:00 So, how do I undomain myself, as it were?

is that even a possibility?

It was a work computer, not for me, but a friend of mine who worked there knew they were selling them off.

If I tick and fix, am I good to go?

I really appreciate the help.
chrisled (14324)
720631 2008-11-16 19:51:00 Ok then, if its no longer on a domain , then you can tick these as well

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: Domain = europa.internal

O17 - HKLM\Software\..\Telephony: DomainName = europa.internal

O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: Domain = europa.internal

O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: Domain = europa.internal

The following may save you ticking the above europa.internal entries

Also make sure you right mouse on my computer / properties (on the desktop)

And then go to the computer name tab, click on to rename this computer, or join a domain, click change

Change it to workgroup, and give it a name MSHOME should be OK. If it hasnt got a name.

Then OK

Then reboot. See if that fixes it

720632 2008-11-19 20:00:00 Hi Again,

your last post certainly got me off the domain alright!! i wasnt able to sign back on again!!

I am on my old laptop now, i wiped the HD on the other one and reinstalled xp pro .

now i have a few more problems .

I have never wiped a hd before, i literally have no programmes on it now . I have a phillips wireless card AND an ethernet cable . neither of which are allowing me to connect to the web .

I have this laptop wirelessly connecting, along with the imac and the ps3 . so its not a modem problem .

The phillips card is recognising the network . but i am getting that blank unable to connect page each time .

how does one set up a connection from scratch, and how can i allow windows to manage my wireless connections and not the phillips programme .

Sorry for the long post

Chris .
