721270 2008-11-18 19:45:00 My friend has given me her SD Card from her digital camera. She says the camera is unable to read the photos on the card saying "Card Error". I've tried reading the card form my card reader on my laptop but Windows says "the card is not formatted, so you want to format now?".....
I'm assuming the SD Card is corrupt and the photos/data are gone. Is there anything I can do to recover these photos?

721271 2008-11-18 19:54:00 Try the card in a another card reader and/or plugging the camera into the Computer and checking it first.

Cards can become corrupted at times. If you format it it is normally best done with the Camera the card is in if possible as different cameras format it with folders etc for their own Brand/Make type.

One of my first card readers had a format facility on it but if I used that then the camera could not read the card, If I formatted it with the camera it was fine.

721275 2008-11-19 03:04:00 I've just used a free program called PhotoRec.

www.cgsecurity.org

Worked well for me on recovering general files from a corrupted disk.
