505916 2006-12-11 21:55:00 ok my car pass the warrant but this was written on the WOF paper:

Both rear trailing arm bushes cracks(border pass)

What is this and what does it mean and how much time and money approximately will it take to fix and how did it happen?

thanks

505917 2006-12-11 22:05:00 The rubber bushes in your suspension arms have arrived at their use-by date. The price to fix will depend on where you take it to be fixed, what model of car it is, and whether you use new or used parts. (It will cost less than a new engine, and more than an oil change. ;) )
Ask for a couple of quotes from firms who can actually inspect the car, over-the-phone quotes are often not worth the paper they are not written on.

505918 2006-12-11 22:12:00 If you buy budget parts and do it yourself the cost will be minimal. It's been a long time since I changed bushes, but I think around twenty bucks each was what I paid. Time for someone who hasn't done it before could be about an hour or so each.

What make and model and year of car?

Having said that I've never heard of a "border pass". Must mean borderline pass, but haven't heard of that either. Some testers just aren't really capable of the responsibilities thay have.

Anyway, if they don't last till the next warrant, you'll know they're packing in by some weird clunking sounds and erratic wandering / steering problems.

Mechanics fix parts that don't work properly.

Panelbeaters replace ....panels....and repaint cars.

505922 2006-12-12 03:27:00 Just managed to sell my Pajaro, was at a park & sell lot.
When the finance company asked for new warrant (mine was 6wks!), the inspector had a fit over the pitman arm on the front steering, and the vulcanised front tyre.

Now this vehicle had just had a new WOF!. The tyre had been through the Govt owned testing station 2 times before!

rant rant!!

505924 2006-12-12 06:36:00 ..... It's a honda civic. ....

I had a 1990 Civic and had to replace both of the rear suspension trailing arm bushes about 18 months ago. From memory it got me around the $80 all up for the garage (if you can find one who does it) do it. Was something like 45mins work on the hoist. Would have taken me a couple of hours without the right equipment, and I didn't have a couple of hours to spare.
