| 505310 | 2006-12-09 01:30:00 | This was in the herald this morning, ..www.nzherald.co.nz Always thought CArlaw was the best place in Auckland for a stadium and it seems that it might still have a chance, It seems like it will be a lot cheaper than Eden park cos the companies will bankroll it. There might be some issues though in a "NAtional Stadium" being at least in part Privately owned. I hope it works. The waterfront was just in the wrong place, and Eden PArk has had its day, It was a poor choice for Auckland to make. Do you want to block your harbour or intensify problems around a current hole of a stadium? Im keeping my fingers crossed... |

| 505311 | 2006-12-09 03:17:00 | And do you want to try an get in and out of Carlaw Park with 60,000 other people? Good luck to you. Seems to me Jafaville authorities don't want any sport in the town They didn't want car racing. They don't want a stadium on the waterfront. They only allow the lights on at Eden park a few times a year. Don't be surprised if they lose the rugby tournament either. Wellingon or Christchurch would jump at the chance of having it. |

How long have you spent in Auckland mate?. Carlaw park is part of the Auckland domain, it borders the domain on two sides. The same domain thats about two or three kilometres square and regularly disperses crowds of up to 100,000 for Christmas in the park. What better place to disperse people from than a massive open park where people can walk to three entirely different suburbs, Grafton, Newmarket, and Parnell. The third side borders Parnell, a where people can leave through. and the fourth side borders the entrance to the motorways going south, west and north, for cars, and all it would require is a pedestrian footbridge like at wellingtons stadium and the fourth side would be a pleasant walk to another park which is in the cbd. MAllard was talking rubbish when he said you couldnt disperse people from CArlaw...he just wanted to dismiss it as an option so he could push for his preferred waterfront option. Honestly mate, I am a born and bred Aucklander and walked past Carlaw park everyday for 4 years while at uni and there is no better place in Auckland to disperse a large crowd from. Access on all 4 sides to the cbd, Parnell, and the domain which has shown it can disperse 100,000 easily. 60,000 wont be a problem. Also the train station for Carlaw would be in the stadium itself for people going south and the ferries to the north shore would be a 15 minute walk away. Every motorway in Auckland, converges on Carlaw, ferries are close are trains are in the stadium itself. If Mallard had put Eden park up against Carlaw as the two options then Carlaw IMO would have won. |

| 505313 | 2006-12-09 04:09:00 | saljens would have to agree with you. And jack what's this about getting 60,000 in and out of carlaw park, It will be much easier than the waterfront idea. If we can have 100,000 people for concerts in the Domain with no problems..60,000 for carlaw where is the problem ? if it has to be in the centre of the city then Carlaw park is the best place. |

| 505315 | 2006-12-09 06:30:00 | Although I no longer live in auckland, I lived there for several years. Carlaw Park was notorious for access fourty years ago. Today I'd guess it is even worse. Use the domain for a car park. What a shambles that would be. It's big enough, but as I remember them the entrances are rather small. And add all this extra traffic to Parnell Rd, Newmarket,Kyber Pass etc. No way. I lived in Cricket Ave for a long time, over forty years ago and I remember the hoards teeming down the street to and from provincial rugby. And multiply those numbers by five or six! Seems to me the only solution was the new waterfront stadium. Central. Close to all transport. But I suppose we can't spoil the Yuppie's views. I fully expect to watch the rugby on TV from Sydney. Auckland deserve to,and will lose the games. |

A train station at the stadium would take southbound passengers and a short walk to another station would take westbound passegers. There is a plan to built a carpark under the stadium, which could be used all year round for Hospital and Uni parks. Also they are taking about 1Ha of Domain Scrub land, which will open it up on the domain side. They are also going to open up the parnell side as well. which will help spread the crowds out. As Saljens and I have said the Domain can cope with 100,000 people. The Waterfront idea people could only exit onto Quay street ....60,000 onto one street...um. |

I can understand JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJs point because at the moment Carlaw only has access to one side because the other sides are quite steep hills,. But a large stadium can have access to those other sides because it will be the equivalent height of the hills allowing people to exit from the top parts of the stands into the Domain and Parnell. And JJJJJJJ hasnt seen the new motorway developments and such, around that area, its not just stanley street anymore, there is a whole raft of motorway onramps to all parts of Auckland. The last thing I want to say is that I looked at the website for Opus, which is one of the international companies putting this foward and they specialize in urban planning, architecture, construction and big projects like this. They, and other companies who were not mentioned in the article, are willing to put 200 million into the project. 200 million is not a small amount of money, and with their business being in this area, I imagine they would have thought this through a lot before saying they will put 200 million in. They obviously think it will work well, and would have considered all the aspects like crowd dispersing and so on. |
