Hummm . . . . . . Australia New Zealand Alliance Currency

That I could live with . I can't be F***ed with changing the two currencys . It's generally only 15 cents difference . So it makes sense if the only thing we ever change is a united currency . It worked well for the Euro and Eastern European countrys are clambering to get a slice of the action .

Time to "Get Real" and go Anzac!! .

Time to see the Kiwi as jockey on a Kangaroo . . . . . now that would have me laughing for days! .

504990 2006-12-07 23:42:00 So how many posts from how many members giving you how many reasons it will never happen do you need to satisfy today's lunchtime bordom with the real world?. Laura (43)
504991 2006-12-08 00:05:00 Um seems this person like to post unusual and sometimes questionable ideas on pf1 and then wonders why the resulting answers get a little bit coloured? i know we are all guilty of some mud slinging . . . . . . and questionable moments, but a shared money / currency for oz and NZ?

the reality is nz and oz will never be buddies enuf to do that, even without the economy aspects of it, it will always be a them and us aspect .

i very much doubt like Laura that you will get a large amount of positive feedback on this one . . . . . . . . . :stare:

504992 2006-12-08 00:31:00 Actually Beetle, I disagree.

Whilst I am a firm beleiver in the "us and them" approach, they are Australians after all, the concept of a shared currency is not that laughable.

The difference between the currencies is negligible, and whilst the economists will give a hundred reasons for or against, the concept does have some merit.

We can still laugh at them, and be grateful we're Kiwis, but still find commonality in certain things, a currency being one of them. C.E.R was not a completely bad idea...

IMHO, or course. :p

That's exactly what happened when the Euro was first "touted" in 1999.There were statements made against it.Just like yours.

But the Euro is here to stay and is performing very well against the Pound and the Greenback.

Political ramifications aside, being able to travel through 12 European Countries and not having to worry about 12 different currencies is a blessing in disguise....but then again,if you have not been there done that, then I can understand your lack of understanding.

So having a 'united' Anzac would consolidate CER and do the world of good for both economys, as there would be better trade deals in our favour.

P.S If no-one ever suggested 'initially' unpopular concepts......would the world be any less better off??.

504994 2006-12-08 00:36:00 It would be viable at a location midway between the two countries, but alas, there are not many facilities or people to use it at that particular point. :( R2x1 (4628)
504995 2006-12-08 01:21:00 questionable ideas

but a shared money / currency for oz and NZ?

Its not new Beetle - the politicians bring this up every now and then .
Their money is normally more stable than ours . Doesn't bother me either way . . .

504996 2006-12-08 01:39:00 Would we have to have Shane Warne on the $5 note? [shudders ..] Biggles (121)
504997 2006-12-08 01:52:00 There is a fair chance this will happen eventually but the economists say an international currency such as the $US makes more sense . Already many countries accept the $US and believe me, in third world countries it is preferred to the local currency .

Ultimately there will be one world currency which will make life much easier . Just as there used to be different coins in the ancient world, then different notes in Europe, we now have the Euro . Nothing to worry about .

But I don't think it's a daft idea . What I'd suggest though is two seperate currencies, each aligned with each other . That would mean each has it's own uniqueness, but the values would be identical .
