And..."I knew it was a scam, but decided to play along with it." the mother said. "I was curious, but it went too far."

Both said they're surprised there is no one in New Zealand to help them get their money back.
I'm not surprised...

504753 2006-12-07 01:22:00 The pair are trusting who they believe to be the Central Bank of Nigeria to "investigate" the fraudulent email scam and have paid a further $10,000 for the privilege .

The woman fervently believes the "Nigerian bank" won't let her down "I trust them," she said and maintains some of the emails were legitimate .

Meanwhile, they incurred "late fees" for not getting an application to the bank in time .

Some people's stupidity knows no bounds . This scammer is laughing all the way to the bank (there real bank, not the ficional one in the quote above) .

I wonder if they'd be interested in a harbour bridge I have for sale?

504754 2006-12-07 01:36:00 It does attract some sympathy.... don't forget that that it is the average IQ that is 100. Think of an old fashioned Bell curve and there are lots of people on the shady side through no fault of their own. Scouse (83)
504755 2006-12-07 01:52:00 The pair want to warn others not to open emails, attachments, or send money to people you have never met.

This would make sense 5 years ago.

504756 2006-12-07 02:33:00 You can't have sympathy for people like that.

I doubt there is anyone on the planet that hasn't heard of Nigerian scams.

504757 2006-12-07 02:44:00 But don't forget all the nearly equally stupid people who were putting all their savings into the pre-1987 crazy stockmarket companies, their names ending in ....corp, like Judgecorp, Equiticorp, ad infinitum.
Sheer greed for a quick dollar, with no real appreciation of what was happening.

[Every day in the DSIR cafeteria scientists and others who should have known better rabbitted on and on about the share market, god what a bore they were.
They all went strangely quiet after the crash.]
