504682 2006-12-06 17:52:00 The Battlegrounds LAN, otherwise known as BGLan, is a medium sized event which caters towards the LAN goer. We are mostly a gaming lan, and are having a big three day event, with free pizza! The last event was amazing - running 40+ hours, with great games of CoD2, CoH, Flatout2, Warsow, UT2k4, Trackmania Nations, FEAR:Combat, The Ship, and DotA being played. Kudos to the 70 people who turned up!

COSTS:
Prepaid entry fee: $25
At the door entry fee: $30
Guest/Observer fee: $0

TIMES:
Prepays close: Wednesday, January 3rd
Event Starts: Friday 5th of January, 8 PM
Event Ends: Sunday 7th of January, 3 PM

VENUE:
Health at Apollo, Corner of Apollo Drive and Rosedale Road, Mairangi Bay. Maps up on website. Apollo Drive has been opened for use by the general public! You can now come via Rosedale Road or Apollo Drive. We also have PLENTY of parking. There's a subway down the road, and a rather excellent cafe downstairs.

TOURNAMENTS:
Tournaments will be decided at event, we have nothing planned currently. Last time we had a 25 person CoD2 tournament.

GAMES:
CoD2, CoH, Flatout2, Warsow, UT2k4, Trackmania Nations, FEAR:Combat, The Ship and DotA were played last time, and something similar to that will be played this time

NETWORK:
We will have an internet connection available, running at 256kbit/s. There will also be a DC hub running. Our DC++ hub record is 23TB, and our network is fully gigabit.

FOOD:
We will be selling drinks/food onsite, any profit from those goes to paying back our network gear and supports the event. We will also be getting Pizza Hut pizza delivered, which will be free. On 9AM Saturday morning, we tend to flood the cafe downstairs. Expect a huge social breakfast with 20-30 people. Bring $10-$20 to feed yourself. We're going to try and negotiate some discountage with the cafe this time, but I haven't called them up yet. On Sunday mornin, we all pile into cars and head down to Subway. This has kinda become tradition, so the more the merrier!

We would very much appreciate anyone from these forums to come. We're expecting to full our maximum capacity of 70 for this event again, so reserve yourself a spot and save some cash!

What to bring:
bglan.co.nz

Visit us at http://www.bglan.co.nz/

What not to bring:
- Alcohol
- Drugs
- Cigarettes(Smokers can bring these, but they have to go fully off the premises to smoke.)

We cannot allow any of the above mentioned at the event because that's the rules that were set down upon us for the venue, plus they tend to lessen the fun others have.

504683 2006-12-06 19:52:00 Pity, that
A: I work those days.
B: I don't play those games.
C: I don't live that way.

504684 2006-12-07 02:57:00 Hmm, interesting. Too bad, they don't have real racing games there which means the faster the computer the better advantage. :annoyed: But they're expensive. You don't event need a steering wheel to win.
By the way count me out.

504685 2006-12-07 03:42:00 $25.00 for "free" pizza? Hmmm. Must go.

But uh oh... there's a tiny catch - also need to supply:

- 10m Network Cable

- Network Card

- Computer

- money for food and drink for the whole event.

- Peripherals

- Headphones

- Multiboard

But hey...Free Pizza. I'm sure Homer will be there.

504686 2006-12-07 04:37:00 You guys have never been to a lan party before? Try it out, it's a great social event.

The analogy you're trying to paint there is similar to saying "Wait, why would I go to a symphonic concert? I'm getting nothing out of it but being forced to sit in a chair the whole time."

Try before you bash :) It would be nice if you could atleast go to one of said LAN parties before bashing it, LAN parties are a labour of love, and the admin staff can be run pretty hard, I personally didn't get more than 3 hours of gaming time in, and had on average 5 hours of sleep each night for last event. To me personally it seems poor to bash a LAN organiser; most actually loose money on events and work their socks off anyway. I have a respect for people taking risks to let people have fun and enjoy themselves, and I'm sure you would too if you knew what was involved.

I'm not bashing it, I just dont have the time and I've never been any good at multiplay.

and exactly what are 'real' racing games? they all involve racing - trackmania was/is a world championship, flatout2 is just plain fun, and in neither game does pc speed dictate the race outcome any more than in a racing simulator. just because a game wasn't mentioned doesn't mean it won't be played - whether or not it makes for fun multiplayer dictates how much it will be played

why all the negativity? big lan events are awesome fun, have a go before dissing them! i'll be going if i can - we can get a couple of starcraft games in eh neongreen?

504690 2006-12-07 21:31:00 why all the negativity?

I think some people forget their manners in online forums.

Good on you Neongreen for going to the effort of organising/getting involved in an event like this. Last LAN I went to was back at Easter and it was a great way to take a break from the rigors of everyday life. A well organised LAN is quite a feat to achieve.

You're always welcome to post your LAN news here and even though there'll always be a few "glass-half-empty" types wanting to bump up their post counts I reckon the majority of people appreciate your efforts.
