506046 2006-12-29 21:09:00 Well the laptop arrived (actually had to drive to pick it up from the courier depot, but yeah).

I am thoroughly impressed with it actually - build quality appears excellent, despite its very generous use of plastic. Screen is bright and crisp, everything seems to work great. It is a little on the thick side, but it isn't "heavy" or "bulky" as such.

The aspect which impresses me the most is battery life - I've had it running on one (high capacity) battery for the last 6-7hrs or so, with WiFi on, screen fairly bright, doing web surfing, installing software, burning disks etc. It has far exceeded my expectations, so I would strongly recommend this laptop to others.

Once again, thanks to everyone for their contributions to this thread.

506047 2006-12-29 21:25:00 Excellent. Glad that you are impressed with it. What non-Windows apps came with it, eg anti-virus, "Dell Support", Ghost and such like? FoxyMX (5)

506049 2006-12-29 22:24:00 Software:
- McAfee trial (which I removed + replaced with other software)
- Dell support
- Dell Mediadirect (quite cool in my opinion)
- NetWaiting (something which interacts with call waiting or something like that, for dial-up users)
- Google Desktop + other Google stuff
- MS Works
- Other than that, not much else (I opted out of whatever I could - eg "Network Assistant", and "Ghost Trial" etc.)

The thing which amazed me was they shipped a proper Windows XP Home SP2 disk, instead of a recovery disk/partition which most manufacturers usually ship.

Screen:
-1440x900 truelife = glossy screen. It's remarkably sharp and bright, though difficult to use in sunlight (as with other glossy screens).
