504703 2006-12-08 04:25:00 Oh, but its much more fun this way. Similar to dropping a bag of bricks on his hopes and dreams :) Neongreen (6358)

I agree. Greg's just jealous because he's way too old for that sort of thing and is secretly wishing he could go along and take part in the fun. :p

Greg, don't be such a misery. I have a lot of admiration for those who organise events such as this as it isn't a walk in the park. Remember too, there are a lot worse things the young ones could be spending their dosh on than a weekend LAN party. ;)

504707 2006-12-08 04:29:00 Heh, Trackmania a simulator?

Which real world effect is Trackmania simulating with its tracks floating in the sky and 700 foot jumps?

Great series of games but I cant say I ever thought I would see anyone call them a sim

Fantasy perhaps, Pure arcade even, But sim?, must be heap powerful drugs.

well, ok, you're probably right on that one (not the drugs thou), but trackmania is about the racing, unlike need for speed which is just car-porn or flatout2 which is a big free for all with derby matches incase you get sick of racing.

and the tmn tracks often have supports - it just depends on the effort of the creator.... although the physics in trackmania sunrise were somewhat screwed cornering etc was fixed for tm nations

lol those trackmania cars don't stop accelerating either - i got out of the stadium and got it over 720kph (www.imagef1.net.nz) and it was still accelerating

504708 2006-12-08 04:31:00 I realized what TM:N is compared to other racers.

TM:N is a puzzle game, where as Grand Turismo, TOCA, etc, are about the cars.

only some of the time - i hate the maze tracks, but the challenge ones are the best (i have a strong dislike for multilap)

gt and toca are simulators, the are about real life performance, allowing us to grace without the danger/cost. the cars, tracks and physics are meant to be true to reality

nfs is about car porn

flatout/burnout are all about fun - flatout, like mariocarts/crash team racing, is the best multiplayer game if you want a laugh

Neither Toca nor Gran Turismo are sims, They ignore real world conditions rather then trying to replicate them, Thus they are fantasy.

The physics model in Flatout are probally more real world then those two.....

Not that I think this makes them poor games, Though Toca is as crap as the last 20 or so NFS releases.

Anyhow, Nearly everything that can be considered a car-sim is covered here, www.rscnet.org

hell, While Im at it, Sim fans, Look at the gear now available for rFactor.

I ran a gaming clan for a couple of years, so I know what the appeal is in having a LAN party.

But I doubt the accuracy of the costs.

As for what the young ones could be doing instead... how the heck are they going to learn to smoke, drink and do recreational drugs if they're stuck indoors in a conference centre all weekend?

As for sucking a lemon - well I drink pure lemon juice by the pint, so I think I'm well and truly sucked out!
