2006-12-14 08:56:00 | It looks like tonight is the night the Stuff.co.nz site gets its new design, see screen shot: imagef1.net.nz or www.stuff.co.nz It also looks like NZ Herald website www.nzherald.co.nz has also launched there new design as well.

2006-12-14 09:30:00 | OOH Herald changed! First off, the layout is okay I guess. At least the colours are not full on your face. A little more cluttered with stories being horizontal instead of vertical. There are a lot of gaps once you remove the advertisments and even when they are put back. There are quite a lot of wasted areas too. Visually the text is easy to read ( it always was any who ) The menu at the top does not quite match the headline and area of interest below. Colours do not match and what is up with the rounded corners on the lower right of the sections? I'd like to read Beetles opinion of the new site.

2006-12-14 09:57:00 | it seems pretty good, and reasonably fast. A lot better than the Monday version which looked like this (imagef1.net.nz) Its a shame the width is not a bit better, but at the price (to us) we can't growl I guess.

2006-12-14 10:01:00 | Herald looks like they just threw content (way too much content) at a blank slate and then moved it around to avoid overlap. I rate it as crap, I'm sure who ever does the layout for the actual paper would be disgusted, In fact if I picked up a news paper that was laid out like that pos I would bin it without reading. And the rounded corners not only look nothing like a "lift" if that was what was intended but are crap to boot. Messy, lacks structure. Thats the negatives out of the way, Now the positives, There is no need for me to ever visit the site again, and Some incredibly poor team of web designers probably made a lot of money. Lets hope Stuff doesn't get ruined.

2006-12-14 17:53:00 | I agree with Metla, too much content on the page and the layout does not make for easy reading. Those with dialup will find it very slow to load compared with the old version which was very quick. For comparison have a look at the new look Stuff site which is far superior in my opinion

2006-12-14 20:00:00 | The new Stuff site is okay. I kind of preferred the old one personally though as they have gone with a fixed layout instead of a liquid layout so it doesn't adapt to different screen resolutions. I'm still to figure out what's wrong with tables. :confused:Tables are meant for displaying data etc, not for layout. From the viewers perspective, there is nothing wrong with a site that is designed using tables, but they don't offer the flexibility of a CSS based design (though beginners tend to find them easier to use, as do those frustrated by Internet Explorers strange CSS rendering or those trying to put together a website very quickly). I'm guilty of using tables myself, though I try not to.
