721670 2008-11-20 08:10:00 Hi everyone,

I'll have an old laptop pretty soon, and I'd like to put it to good use. I was just wondering if I could remove the laptop screen from the laptop and use it as an EXTERNAL screen, through a VGA port for example.

Just a thought that ran through my mind. Is it possible or just silicon pie in the sky?

Does/will the laptop work?

721672 2008-11-20 09:32:00 The laptop is about 4 years old, an HP NX7010 (Centrino 1.7GHz, 64MB Nvidia GPU). Everything is good on it except the grpahics card. Got burnt out about 6 months ago.

So instead of having it rot, I thought I might use it for parts, which is the original question of the post. Oh well.

721673 2008-11-20 09:41:00 You could use it as a tray to serve people tea and coffee and the like.

Or maybe you could punch the screen out and use it as a photo frame.

Can't imagine it would be any good as a frisbee.

The actual connectors to the screen are the same as inside LCD screens (I think), but you'd need some sort of interface for that. In a laptop this works on the MoBo. So sorry, you're probably out of luck.

721675 2008-11-20 11:00:00 Don't forget to film it and put it on youtube if you do:p Blam (54)
721676 2008-11-20 17:45:00 Sell it on trademe. There are often people wanting a replacement screen. They pack it way too often and are expensive to replace. Bantu (52)

I take it then that the laptop is not in working condition? PJ
