721571 2008-11-20 01:20:00 Hi, am looking to purchase a laptop for son starting uni. Have seen an awesome system at Harvey Norman, HP DV5-1009tx. The other option is to go to Laptop Company. Have been told that there are retail and business type laptops and the Harvey Norman ones are not as good. Is this the case.

Also if anyone has any info on the above laptop that would be great too.

Thanks

721574 2008-11-20 02:17:00 email around asking for prices if you're able to. I got an HP monitor from the laptop company because they were quite cheap.

Also choose an actual retailer in your city over an internet only retailer. It will make things much easier if things go wrong. I only use internet only retailers for small and low cost items.

721575 2008-11-20 07:04:00 Compare models and prices and go there ...
At the end of the day they are prepackaged so they are the same thing if the models are the same etc...

At the end of the day, how much do you want to spend, you could spend up to $10,000 and more if you really wanted to.

Specialist stores would maybe have more business style laptops that is maybe not necessarily faster, but they are more portable for that business executive but priced with a premium. For those unless you can afford it, get some used ones off Trademe.

721576 2008-11-20 07:41:00 Harvey Norman is a great company but I just think their markups are too high to justify some of their laptops . Just purchased mine through Notebook City (www . notebookcity . co . nz) which was a Toshiba L300 - granted it's not a high spec machine but it's doing its job as a DJ machine and more than happy with it .

Dont go all out unless you really need the power .
