| 721438 | 2008-11-19 10:32:00 | My daughters laptop will not boot up, possibly got a virus, will not boot up from cd when boot up from cd option selected, can get it to boot into safe mode but no desktop shows up, just black screen, will not boot up with command prompt, get the message userinit.exe Application Error-Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005) userinit.exe Application Error. happy to reformat hard drive if I could just work out how to get past this, the only thing that appears to work in safe mode is task manager when I press ctrl alt del- can anyone suggest anything to help please- sorry running xp pro with sp2 installed | stu morgan (12378) | ||
| 721439 | 2008-11-19 17:53:00 | do an f8 boot as you would safe mode except choose "last known good config" see if that gets you in. here (www.experts-exchange.com) seemed to have success scroll down to the bottom I google your error message lots of info there just picked this one as it seemed to have promise |

| 721440 | 2008-11-20 03:13:00 | Thanks for your input, found the book that came with laptop this morning, found away to get in by pressing alt and F10 which got me into Acer emergency repair mode and have managed to reload windows xp- all good so far...Thanks for your assistance | stu morgan (12378) | ||
