721318 2008-11-19 00:09:00 Hi there all,

Just a quick question regarding the possibility of a setup.

At my parents home they have telecom broadband, with the multi-computer modem/router (A D-Link DSL-504T). I am home for the summer, and was wondering if it is possible to add a wireless router to this. I cannot see any obvious way, but thought I should ask here first before giving up.

Cheers,

GorCh

721319 2008-11-19 00:27:00 Easy to do. Just get any wireless router and you'll be away laughing, the 504T has a 4 port switch on it, so plug in, configure and youll be sorted. wratterus (105)
721320 2008-11-19 00:31:00 I thought so. Now what do i need to configure? Should I put the cable from the modem/router to an internet or LAN port? GorCh (13021)
721321 2008-11-19 00:39:00 First thing youll want to do is plug the wireless router directly into your laptop and encrypt the wireless. Make sure it's IP address isn't the same as the ADSL router's one, then plug an ethernet cable from the ADSL Router into the WAN port on the wireless router.

If that doesn't want to work, turn off DHCP on the wireless router and if the router has more than one ethernet port on the back, don't use the WAN port.

721322 2008-11-19 00:53:00 Fantastic all working now. Just had to make sure the ip of the wireless was outside the range of the DHCP on the telecom modem router. Thanks for your help. GorCh (13021)
721323 2008-11-19 00:55:00 Cool, no worries.

You've encrypted the wireless network? Don't want anyone else stealing your broadband... :p

721324 2008-11-19 00:59:00 Yea its encrypted. We're in the country 500m from the main road though, so not too much threat of that. :P GorCh (13021)
