(I made a CV back in college 3 – 4 years ago, but so far in my life I have never needed one, till now ( & I don’t know if the one a made in college will help me get me more work) as I am looking for more work in the IT sector / Web design sector) Any advise is welcome :) |

| 505993 | 2006-12-12 07:28:00 | Ideally you should keep it short. I'm sure that a human resource person does not have time to read a 14 page document and your C.V. will end up in file 13. I'm 64 years old and my C.V. is composed of 4 pages. The purpose of a C.V. is to get you an interview rather than telling your life story. First page is a cover page. Second page has my name, address, contact details and the details for two recent referees. Third page has my last five positions and responsibilities. Concentrate here on outcomes. For example, "The last web site I designed resulted in a x percent increase in customers or sales or whatever." Insert your own words here! Fourth page has Education, Interests and hobbies. Unwritten rule is don't tell lies or make yourself out to be better than you are. We all want to put ourselves in the best light possible and so you should. Honesty is the best policy. The attention getter is your C.V. If you don't get attention then no interview. Don't forget to update your C.V. for each position you apply for. No point in mentioning that you had a job laying drains whilst at school but it would probably be relevant if you applied as a web designer for a company who laid drains. You probably have to stand out from the crowd with your C.V. |
