2006-12-18 00:43:00 | Will I like it better than FF2. I tried 9.0 and didn't. | KiwiTT_NZ (233) | |
2006-12-18 01:01:00 | It is not as good as Firefox 2 IMHO but is useful for going through a lot of eMail sites quickly because of the Wand. It also has a built in Bit Torrent downloader which is not as good as uTorrent, but it does the job. | zqwerty (97) | |
2006-12-18 01:06:00 | Hmm yer, I tried the latest version of Opera before the final one (Altho some sites say its not the final), and the latest version of Java 1.6. It kept crashing. I dont know if Opera or Java was the prob. BUT, 1.6 of Java works fine with IE and FF 2. Which I had to install since Opera kept crashing.

2006-12-18 02:01:00 | I gave Opera 9.10 a 2 hour session last night in my normal browsing routine instead of using Firefox 2.0 or Firefox 3 Alpha1 and didn't notice anything untoward. I am using Java 1.6. Opera is a good browser and I like using it but I love all the extensions available for Firefox and the complexity of setting them up and playing around. On my computer Firefox, both versions, are subjectively faster than Opera, and always have been, through all the different versions of both. I have always had Opera in my back pocket since version 3 and I also use it for the inexplicable times, quite rare, when Firefox glitches on some downloads from Softpedia and a few others of the main download sites. Firefox seems to want to download the page that the download address is on instead of the actual download itself, lol. Sometimes when all else fails I use IE as a tab in Firefox or as an independent browser and it is then I notice how slow it is on page loading compared to Opera and Firefox. I can always get any download that all the other download managers fail to get , ie Star Downloader, Leechget, Wachget, FlashGet. So IE still has a place on my computer but all the pop-ups, multiple windows and general annoyances like the flash advertising disrupt the usual calm that Firefox gives me when browsing. | zqwerty (97) | |

2006-12-18 02:09:00 | Yer Opera is alright , I like the personal bar thing. Its pretty good. The only site Opera seemed to crash on often, was the new NZ Herald site, for some reason. Most of the other sites were fine. FF has the similar bookmarks toolbar thing, but I don't think u can drag it to the bottom of the screen, like u can by selecting bottom under personal bar in Opera. Yup I know the feeling about annoying flash ads. Thats the good thing about Opera and FF. Opera can block them altogether, altho FF only puts an F in its place. I rarely use IE 7 even tho I bothered to install it, in the 1st place. Must have been bored at the time :D BTW, if u do use IE 7, there is a fix for the phishing filter, if this is enabled. Thats what can slow browsing down in IE 7. I've only got the Adblock and Flashblock add-ons in this. Those are good enough for me.

2006-12-18 22:31:00 | Well looks like it has an issue (still with the NZ herald site) sometimes. I tried the final, uninstalled the previous version/s of Opera. Deleted all of Opera's old / previous folders and entries in the registry. Still crashed. The Herald site hasn't crashed with FF 2 since I installed it. So, I don't think the prob is Java 1.6. Opera 9.02, the previous version before the final and the final 9.1 crashed on the new Herald site.
