721857 2008-11-26 07:37:00 46 is reasonably low.

My comp ranges from about 28C to around 70 depending on load, ambient temps, how far I'm overclocking it at the time, and how high I've got my fan set.

I wouldn't worry about 46 if I were you.

721858 2008-11-26 23:24:00 Okay, that's good.

Another thing I noticed when looking into it is that you're not meant to be able to control the speed of a 3-pin fan in a 4-pin socket...yet when I switch on SmartFan on my motherboard it APPEARS to work, even though it's a 3-pin in a 4-socket. The fan reduces speed and gradually changes speed depending on the temperature. In fact, that 46C was the highest I've managed to get it while SmartFan is on -- if it's off and the fan is on full force the highest temperature is 43C.

But should this be working since it's only a 3-pin fan?

721859 2008-11-27 00:34:00 I don't think so.

Don't worry too much about it though. As long as it's fairly cool (it is), and doesn't deafen you then it's doing its job.

721860 2008-11-27 02:13:00 Thanks, that's good to know.

It does baffle me how this fan is adjusting itself though. I just tested it, at idle the fan will be spinning at about 1085 RPM. If I push the CPU to 100% usage it goes up to around 1452 RPM. Full speed would be around 2100 RPM.

Maybe my motherboard has some built in way of controlling the voltage to the fan, but I'm not sure if that's even possible.
