| 722239 | 2008-11-23 17:51:00 | Hi Guys, On my XP desktop for the last few months when I go to do a restart when I click on restart I get a Data Execution Prevention dialog box come up. When I close this, and the try restart again, the system restarts OK. Any suggestions what is causing this ? it is becoming a bit of a pain. |

| 722240 | 2008-11-23 19:15:00 | Try this - click start/Run type in msconfig look under the startup tab, untick every thing you dont need to have running, Eg Adobe, office etc. Reboot, if it still does it, go back into the msconfig, under services tab, Put a tick in the box that says " Hide all Microsoft Services", then disable the remaining ones left, reboot, if it doesn't pop up with the message, go back into msconfig/services and re enable 1 at a time, rebooting untill the error happens again - thats the problem one. Note: after disabling the services if you still get the error on reboot , re enable them all again. |

| 722242 | 2008-11-24 07:25:00 | Thanks for that, looks like I have got a bit of work to do Its a matter of finding whats causing the problem, once found the solution is usually not that hard <----- ( famous last words) :) The cheats way can be This here possibly (helpdeskgeek.com) - it may stop the problem, but its not fixing the cause, better to find out whats causing it than to side step. Also try this - Click start/run type in eventvwr look through the system and application logs see if anything stands out as a problem/error message. |
